No artist is exempt from the sometimes beastly Internet where leaked albums are downloaded frequently. Yesterday Rick Ross‘ highly anticipated God Forgives I Don’t leaked six days early, but Ross was very chill about the leak. Hey, why be mad when you’re a boss? After realizing fans were already jamming to his fifth album he tweeted, “#GFID out there so vibe to it..enjoy it..buy it Tuesday!!!” Ross may be busy cultivating his Maybach Music Group squad, but for his own project he enlisted a few heavy hitting MMG outsiders like Jay-Z, Andre 300 and Dr. Dre. But it’s “Diced Pineapples” featuring Wale and Drake that caught our attention.
Sure, “Diced Pineapples” is another song about women and sex. But how does a song about women get named after a very delicious fruit? Think back to October 2011 when Rick Ross had a seizure. MTV reports that according to Ross his doctor advised him to incorporate more water and fruit after his health scare last year. His choice of fruit was his favorite–pineapples. Viola! The concept of “Diced Pineapples” was born. “For the next three weeks, I woke up every morning and ate diced pineapples, and I put the concept together,” he said. “Drizzy came in, as well as Wale, and it’s kinda like, ‘She could be my diced pineapple. This special lady, she could be what I wake up to every morning and help me get by every day.'”
The piano fused track is sexy and seductive. Wale’s opening poetry is only the precursor to Ricky Rosay’s hardcore lyrics and Drake’s gentle belting. A healthier Ross makes for a creative one. Eating a little fruit here or there isn’t so bad after all.
