Drake took infatuation to another level when he tattooed the late R&B singer Aaliyah‘s face on his back last year. And the tat isn’t small. Well the latest news surrounding Drizzy and one of our favorite R&B sweethearts takes his admiration for her to a level above and beyond his back ink. Hip Hop DX reports that Drake is set to executive produce Aaliyah’s forthcoming posthumous album. Drake as executive producer? This could be good, folks. Considering Drake’s ability to tap into the emotions prevalent in R&B music and his ear for hit songs–makes for a good start to cooking up some magic.
Thank Me Later’s “Unforgettable” featuring Young Jeezy that sampled Aaliyah’s “At Your Best (You Are Love)” was only a peek at what Drake could do with her incomparable material. He hinted to British personality Tim Westwood in late March that he’d have a few surprises regarding the “Rock the Boat” singer. “I have some great Aaliyah news coming soon,” he told Tim Westwood. “Just some special things.” While producer Jeffrey “J. Dub” Walker said an unreleased song titled “Steady Ground” will appear on the project, Aaliyah’s brother Rashad Haughton said this alleged album was nonexistent.
Listen. A man that has the gumption to permanently ink the face of a woman he never met on his back is passionate enough to executive produce an album of that woman’s songs. Don’t worry. Drake will handle this with the same care he hand picks out his sweaters. Bawse!
