Kelly Clarkson’s Top Five Covers This Year

Kelly Clarkson Best Covers

It doesn’t matter if Kelly Clarkson were to sing the phone book. We’d want to hear it. When Clarkson put out the call to fans asking what songs they’d like her to cover the online requests flooded in. The Stronger tour that ended in April produced amazing covers of an array of musical genres. And like the great vocalist she is, Clarkson showed her range nailing everything from the Rolling Stones‘ “Wild Horses” to Bruno Mars‘ “It Will Rain.” When the tour ended our sad faces began, but luckily for us her Summer 2012 tour with The Fray has reignited the covers we were so obsessed with. Because we know you love the covers as much as we do, we’ve chosen the best five covers from Kelly Clarkson’s tour and concerts this year. Enjoy!

5. Katy Perry‘s “Wide Awake”

Kelly Clarkson takes on this dreamy pop ballad over her band’s basic acoustic. Her riffs are exactly why Clarkson’s talent couldn’t be denied when she won American Idol.

4. Bruno Mars’ “It Will Rain”

Go to the 4:24 mark. We dare you! The way she carries the syllables of rain makes one wish a heavy downpour would fall right then and there. Sitting on a stool and singing without a wind fan or over the top theatrics will never go out of style. Whichever one of Clarkson’s fans requested this, we thank you. Truly.

3. Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston’s “When You Believe”

Taking on anything by Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston separately, let alone in a duet, is an act of bravery. Mariah and Whitney are arguably two of the biggest pop stars with vocals that range from every spectrum of high and low. With Tamyra Gray Clarkson takes on the popular 90s hit. Clarkson plays it safe avoiding the infamous high pitched scream Mariah’s known for. Every note she sung she nailed. Clarkson and Tamyra Gray did the pop divas’ collaboration justice.

2. No Doubt‘s “Don’t Speak”

No Doubt is making a comeback, and for Kelly Clarkson this group has a fond place in her heart since childhood. The mere mention of No Doubt’s name sends the crowd into a screaming frenzy. When she brings up their new single, she mentions P!nk’s new single and suggests they go on tour together. “Wouldn’t it be cool if they both went on tour together? That’s my dream tour.” The crowd sings along each word with her as she sings from the gut to give the song just the right pain it needs.

1. Britney Spears‘ “Till the World Ends”

Kelly has fun with Britney Spears’ “Till the World Ends” adding her own twist. The catchy pop tune makes you want to dance, yet Clarkson’s powerful, sometimes soulful, sometimes bluesy, sometimes pop voice shines through.
