Got fur? Lady Gaga does, and PETA is not too pleased about it. Lady Gaga was recently photographed in a poster for her upcoming film Machete Kills and sported a fur earlier this week in Bulgaria. True to form, PETA’s Jeff Mackey wrote an open letter to Lady Gaga on their website reminding the pop star that she once declared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show “I hate fur and I don’t wear fur.” As if accusing of her of hypocrisy wasn’t crass enough, Mackey compared her to Kim Kardashian writing, “you’re making yourself a target just like the mindless Kim Kardashian.” Ouch.
Initially Gaga responded on her social media site with brief sarcasm. “For all the press and such that are writing about whether or not my fur is actually real, please don’t forget to credit the designer HERMES. Thank you, LOVE gaga.” But the head monster had more to say. In “FURGATE PT 1” Gaga spoke to her fans about respecting their beliefs and asked that they respect hers. “I do not however support violent, abusive, and childish campaigns for ANY CAUSE,” she wrote. She declined to address whether the furs were real or faux because she thought it’d be hypocritical since she’s worn other animals and meat in the past. The thoughtful statement was more for her fans than PETA, but she didn’t forget to address them in the end. “And to the campaigners, please save your flour to make bread for the children who are hungry. And Kim Kardashian is fabulous.” For all the shade she threw PETA’s way they won’t even need an umbrella.
