Whether you’re one of her lambs or not, there’s no arguing the fact that Mariah Carey’s new single is motivational. Unveiled to the world this evening, the video for “Triumphant (Get ‘Em)” stars both of the song’s featured rappers, MMG ring-leader Rick Ross and his Philly protégé, Meek Mill. Given the opportunity to emerge a champ as the video’s protagonist and in real life, Meek plays the role of a boxer going twelve rounds in the ring against a hearty opponent, taunting him the entire time.
While Rozay might have the streets and Tweets on lock, Mariah’s global veteran reach far surpasses his own. Mutually beneficial for all parties involved, “Triumphant” is full of opportunity, allowing Mariah to stay connected to her hip-hop-feature roots, Ross to continue promoting his new album God Forgives, I Don’t, and Meek to be catapulted into the eyes and ears of more mainstream fans who may not have heard his MMG collaboration cuts or set of Dreamchasers mixtapes.
Alongside DJ Khaled, Mimi and the minked-up Rozay sit front-row to celebrate Meek’s hard-fought win, with Mariah occasionally doubling her video duties as the fight’s sexy ring card girl. Considering “Triumphant” was directed by her husband Nick Cannon, the series of tight gold outfits become a bit more endearing. One thing we can’t explain, however, is Rick Ross throwing money into the ring. He does know it’s a boxing match and not a strip club, right?
