American Idol Kris Allen Says “Things Are Only Gonna Get More Fun” Now That He’s Split With RCA Records

by (@zaragolden)

So long, farewell! American Idol season eight winner Kris Allen has parted ways with RCA Records, The Hollywood Reporter confirms. Allen signed to the Sony subsidiary after he beat Adam Lambert in 2009, and soon thereafter released his self-titled debut. With his inspiring first single “Live Live We’re Dying” ahead and an American Idol win behind him, Allen’s first album entered the charts at No. 11 on the Billboard 200 and, all told, moved more than 346,000 copies. Allen’s 2012 followup, Thank You Camellia, saw more moderate succes, debuting at No. 26 and with his cover performances like the one he did of Ellie Gouldings “Lights” or the Beach Boys’ “God Only Knows” getting at least as much play as his official single, “The Vision of Love.”

Allen is not the first Idol winner to split with RCA, fellow winners David Cook and Lee DeWyze before him have gone their own. And so Allen isn’t concerned, rather he promises that “things are only gonna get more fun.” In an address to his fans, he said:

I wanted to let everyone now that RCA and I have decided to split ways. I thank them so much for everything that they did for me. There are so many people there that contribute to my becoming the artist that I am and I will miss them all. In saying that, I am really excited about what is ahead. The path has never been clearer to me. I love what I do and I will never stop. So, to my amazing fans, thank you so much for everything so far but things are only gonna get more fun. I promise.

A free artist now, we can’t wait to see what Allen’s next winning move will be.
