You may know Vivian Green from her #1 dance singles “Emotional Rollercoaster” or “Gotta Go Gotta Leave,” but did you also know that the soulful singer-songwriter is a huge NFL fan – “I’ll watch RedZone all day!” – and lives just blocks from the park where Jay-Z’s Made In America festival took place? No? Neither did we! With a new album coming our way next month, VH1 Tuner recently sat down with Green to get the skinny on her forthcoming project and chat about everything from her stay-fit workout habits to her (cough, cough, Cuffin’ Season) dating life.
After fielding strong fan criticism for her last record being “too pop,” Green went back into the studio to channel her sonic authenticity for new album, The Green Room. “This record is very black, it’s very soulful, and no one can say that I tried to go left this time.” Echoing that honesty, Green describes her look in the video for new single “Anything Out There” as “a reflection of who I am and what I really look like.” Learning to embrace her fans’ feedback without letting it impact her artistic craft has been a trying but worthwhile experience for the singer. “I definitely kept my fans in mind in a way that I never have before,” she admitted, noting that she even tweaked hairstyles and outfits to the fans’ liking in the video.
But it’s win-win. Wearing a few low-cut tops in the clip (that’s now in rotation on VH1 Soul), Green is showing us a sophisticated, provocative side of herself that remained a bit dormant during past projects. In person, the piano-trained songbird smiled while acknowledging the sexy shift, making it clear – “I’m grown!” – that she’s a woman liberated to do as she pleases.
Dropping October 9th, The Green Room is the Philly singer’s fourth full-length album and, in addition to making a cameo in “Anything Out There,” also features a verse from rapper Freeway on a love-torn track called “X.” During our video wardrobe conversation, Green became very animated when her cleavage came up. “They’re mine!” Green insisted of her own lady-parts, making an adorable gesture to politely draw attention to her bust region. “I hope nobody thinks I got implants… look!” We believe you, Viv. Speaking further on her fit physique, Green also shared her thoughts on health and fitness, disclosing her own wellness regimen of running, doing Insanity, drinking tons of water, and eating absolutely no junk food. “Nobody’s getting any younger, so we definitely need to take care of our bodies.”
Currently dating but not in any rush to force a relationship timeline on any suitor, Green is looking forward to taking her time and getting to know the lucky gentlemen she spends time with. Whoever they are though, they better speak pig
latinskin! Feeling most comfortable in the studio and on stage, Green loves to spend her free time watching NFL games and, while she’s not loyal to any particular team, is excited to see how this season’s personnel changes pan out.
