Is getting too hot in thurr? St. Lunatic Nelly was arrested and detained after police found nearly ten pounds of marijuana, 36 small bags of heroin and a loaded gun on his bus at a checkpoint in — yes, you guessed it: Sierra Blanca, Texas. Nelly joins the high company of those who have been similarly detained in the border town before him, Willie Nelson, Armie Hammer, Snoop Dogg and most recently Fiona Apple included.
Nelly and his crew performed a show at the Haze nightclub in Las Vegas and were caught on their way back the the Lou. A man from his camp (his “carrier”?) named Brian Keith Jones claimed responsibility for the contraband, and Nelly and all the rest of their crew have since been sent on their way. The rapper has kept a low profile in recent years, occasional one-off appearances like Vegas and a recent stint on CW reality show called The Next being about it. He does, however, have a new album called M.O. in the works. Maybe Nelly figured a stay with Sierra Blanca’s own Officer Flemming might help “jump-start” that project the way Apple’s recent visit helped to “jump-started” her career.
Assuming tour buses are stocked with weed the way they are toilet paper and other essentials, it seems time that traveling acts learn to avoid Sierra Blanca. The kind folks over at Vulture have made it easy and mapped out out a few alternative check-pointless routes you might take should you hope to avoid the wrath of Officer Flemming.
