Katy Perry was a show stopper last night. And not because of her performance. The celebrity endorsements for the presidential election are rolling in with the election only weeks away. President Obama has racked up his share of artist/celebrity endorsements including staunch supporter, Katy Perry. Perry showed her support by performing hits like “Teenage Dream,” “Part of Me” and “Wide Awake” at the president’s rally in Las Vegas last night. The president shouted out the pop singer and her grandmother who is a long term resident of Nevada. What an early birthday gift for Ms. Perry who turns 28 today. She tweeted, “So tonight was a great night! The PRESIDENT gave grandma and I unforgettable shout outs & now I am officially 28! Best. birthday. ever.”
Leave it to Katy to rock a funky, creative dress, leaving everyone talking. She is so serious about voting for Obama she rocked a ballot style leather dress with the box next to the POTUS’s name shaded. Her dress certainly turned a few heads. Katy’s enthusiasm for voting (regardless of the candidate) is admirable. But, umm, the dress? We’ll let you decide on its level of hotness, or lack thereof.
Meanwhile another singer, although this one identifies as a “Republican at heart,” surprisingly endorsed the POTUS. This year’s queen of covers, Kelly Clarkson, told the Daily Star she’s voting for Obama because of gay rights and women’s issue. According to the Daily Star, Clarkson said, “I’m probably going to vote for Obama again, even though I’m a Republican at heart.” After Clarkson’s support of Ron Paul this change of heart was unexpected. “I can’t support Romney’s policies as I have a lot of gay friends and I don’t think it’s fair they can’t get married,” she continued. “I’m not a hardcore feminist but we can’t be going back to the 50s.” And the best quote of the week goes to Clarkson…”but we can’t be going back to the 50s.” Classic!
