When Beyonce isn’t sitting courtside at a Brooklyn Nets game, or gyrating on stage alongside her hubby she’s penning letters to the president. Bey’s support for President Obama dates back to 2008. As an avid supporter she campaigned for then Senator Obama and was later rewarded the opportunity of a lifetime to sing at the president’s inauguration while he and the First Lady slow danced. Never underestimate the power of a singer who creates a “Single Ladies” anthem.
This year her support continued as she joined the FLOTUS for the Let’s Move campaign. Not to mention Bey and Jay-Z helped raise $4 million for the president’s re-election campaign. They even had the Pres brushing the dirt off his shoulders–a nod to Jay’s popular “Dirt Off Your Shoulder” song. Election day has finally arrived and Beyonce is excited. She posted a photo of herself filling out the paperwork to register to vote. Those bangs! And she wrote a short note to the president praising him for being such an inspiration. “Everyday we see your heart and character, inspiring all of us to give more of ourselves.”
The letter continues by calling him the leader to “take us from where we are to where we need to be.” Short and to the point. Whoever Beyonce (or any artist) chooses to vote for is their prerogative. But Bey showing off her voter registration form to the world is just one example of what it means to use one’s platform responsibly.
