American Idol producers might want to drag another chair up to the judges’ table, because Steven Tyler has landed himself in the drama-fest and the already sure to be explosive season might be more fun yet if they leave him put, don’t you think?
As you’ll recall, Tyler said over the weekend that Nicki Minaj would have sent Bob Dylan “to the cornfield” had he turned up to try out. Nicki of course thinks otherwise, and said as much on Twitter, where she suggested that the comment might have been racially motivated. And almost as soon as she hit send on that last one, Tyler was on television apologizing.
Well, sort of. “Maybe I spoke out of turn, but a racist I’m not,” he told Canadian entertainment show eTalk on Tuesday, insistent that his comments were not racially motivated and that she would have booted Bob: “I don’t know where she got that out of me saying, ‘I’m not sure how she would have judged Bob Dylan.’ I was just saying that if Bob Dylan came on the show, he would’ve been thrown off. Maybe I spoke out of turn, but a racist I’m not, Nicki.” He sounds truly sorry, but he also left plenty for Nicki to chew on.
So before Nicki chimes in: Do you think Nicki will accept this sort of apology? Or should American Idol producers drag up another chair to the judges’ table?
