We can’t speak directly to the “breath stinkin'” or the “broken weaslin'”, but one thing we can’t imagine hating Big Boi for is his music. And so where he really loses us in his new lovelorn Kid Cudi collaboration “She Hates Me” is when he tries to convince us that, “Recently she even seems to hate on all my songs.” Has this woman he so loves really not heard any of these new Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors tracks? Not the hometown banger that is “In the A”? Or the so-slick “Lines,” featuring A$AP Rocky? Because she might think she hates him, but we certainly can’t.
“She Hates Me” is love soaked and slowed down, Big Boi trading his punchy “In the A” flow for something sweeter and more sing-songy in an attempt to convince a women who says she hates him even that she really feels otherwise. “It started with a rose petal, but ended with a stem,” he says of their prickly state, before confessing that “sometimes I really feel as if I’m burning out my soul” and promising that “one thing I will do, baby, is raise my little man.” Kid Cudi, a cool guy that serves up consistently cool hooks, shows up for a crooned chorus comprised of “Im’ma make her love me’s” and “ra ra ra ra’s.”
Big Boi’s Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors is out next Tuesday, December 11th.
