The new visual for “Radioactive” has Rita Ora really stepping up her video game. Ora’s prior releases have been glossy but down-to-earth — “How We Do (Party)” finding her at party way cooler than any we’ve ever been invited to, “Shine Your Light” returning the pop star to her native Kosovo — but this video does the opposite, taking her out of this world and landing her in some sort of glamorous outer-space kingdom. Because when you look as good in a leotard spacesuit as she does, why not?
But in all seriousness, those digitized hunks and that space age motorcycle are cool! But not nearly as cool as Ora’s best attribute: her cool-girl attitude, which seems to get thwarted here to make space for more fancy effects. “Radioactive” is Sia-penned and one of Ora‘s more entrancing tracks, with its Guetta-thump and “Diamonds”-esque “palms to the sky” plea at the hook, and it might have been more fun to see her really own it rather than to see her turned into a swaggy cyborg. This video is fun to watch, but doesn’t do Ora any favors.
