Sure L.A. Reid may not be the huge celebrity draw for The X Factor like his co-judges Britney Spears, Simon Cowell or Demi Lovato, but his ear for talent is as seasoned as they come. L.A. Reid is known for his hand in leading music’s biggest acts–Mariah Carey, TLC, P!nk, Toni Braxton–to platinum success. His gift to spot a star the way a tiger smells its preys will be missed on the third season of The X Factor.
According to Hollywood Reporter, the Epic Records CEO and chairman has decided not to return to the third season of the singing competition show. Instead he’s choosing to re-channel his energy and focus into running the record label, as he’d done before Simon Cowell hired him for the judging seat. “Of course, I will miss the show,” Reid said. “In my opinion Simon attracts the best talent but I’m looking forward to getting back to my core business and the responsibility of running Epic Records.” Reid added his utmost praises for Cowell calling him “the very best.” “Working with him on X Factor has been a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I’m honored to have sat on the panel with such incredible talent.”
The next two projects the veteran record exec is putting his energy in are Ciara and Avril Lavigne. L.A. Reid overseeing the two pop divas is an absolute benefit to both. Ciara just may make a comeback with L.A. by her side.
