VH1 DIVAS: The Late, Legendary Diva Whitney Houston Honored By Jordin Sparks, Ledisi And Melanie Fiona

by

All hail Whitney Houston! The world lost a huge talent last February when The Voice passed away unexpectedly in her hotel room in Los Angeles. While Whitney was reigned supreme as the queen of ballads, she just as much ruled dance songs. VH1 DIVAS honored the incomparable legend with a show-stopping performance by Jordin Sparks, Ledisi and Melanie Fiona. Their make-you-want-to-dance tribute had the audience on their feet clapping along. As one of the greatest vocalist to touch a microphone, Whitney is not an easy diva to cover, because if you can’t sing her notes right, why bother? Thankfully, Jordin, Ledisi and Melanie all have the chops to belt out the range of notes Whitney mastered. And they worked the stage while doing it.

After seeing the 40 second clip of the trio’s rehearsal video, we knew viewers were in for a treat. Sparks kicked off the tribute with her big vocals to “I’m Every Woman.” Fiona joined in and made the smooth transition into “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” and “It’s Not Right But It’s Okay.” Ledisi’s soulful powerhouse vocal chords finished off the medley with “How Will I Know.” By the end of the final song, the three singers cheerfully sang, “How will I know if he really loves me?” in unison. Whitney would be proud.
