Friday Face-Off: Mariah Carey vs. *NSync

by (@fdot415)

‘Twas the Friday before Christmas, when all through VH1 everyone in the office was starting to hum. Beats By Dre buds were hung in ears with care in hopes a good Xmas tune soon would play there. PA’s tapped their toes all snug in their chairs, while visions of *NSync danced in their heads. And our editor with his iPad, and I mine too, listen on repeat to “All I Want For Christmas Is You.” So show us your preference, no matter your taste. Vote Mariah or *NSync to win first place! Now go, read our arguments for each cheery chart-topper while I go hang some mistletoe around the office.

Mariah Carey “All I Want For Christmas Is You - Look, guys. I don’t want a lot for Christmas. There is just one thing I need: this song on repeat until loved ones near and dear want to strangle me with garland. I’m talking about the original here not the reboot (sorry, Justin Bieber, but WTH are you doing on my jingle jam!). What says Christmas more than Mariah doing flirty eyes to camera as Mrs. Claus while she plays in a winter wonderland. So her fake frolicking looks like she’s never had a snow fight in her life, but everyone knows Ms. Carey’s acting skills aren’t where it’s at. And this song is all about that singing. Excuse me while I practice that youuuuuu at the end. My bad, neighbors!

*NSYNC “Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays - When Santa gets sick on Christmas Eve, who else do you trust to deliver presents in his absence more than *NSync? Donned in their 90′s fleece and puffy jackets, the boyband delivers Christmas cheer through song – the only way I want cheer delivered! I know Justin Timberlake is married now and a long way from the bleach-blonde, curly-haired JT of this clip, but I’ll never get over my crush. Plus, seeing Joey, JC, Chris, Justin and Lance give presents to the homeless and cute little kids warms my heart on even the coldest winter evening. And, (bonus alert!) Gary Coleman is Santa’s lead elf. Now that’s what I’m talkin’ ’bout!
