After hovering over our browsers and playing “Senorita” on repeat, the clock struck 12:01 and there was no new music from Justin Timberlake to be heard. In his defense, Wednesday’s cryptic tweet didn’t specify exactly what we should be looking out for today, and it’s probably about time us nosy journalists learned not to get ahead of ourselves over the mere possibility of a story. But… it’s JT! Can you really blame us?
We also knew the sudden whispers of a possible JT-Jay-Z-Beyonce collaboration simply arriving at our desks at a convenient time were too good to be true. Instead, Timberlake (or more likely, someone on his payroll) took to Twitter to link out to another site which holds a video of JT announcing he’s “ready” to return to music, hopefully as soon as Monday, January 14 at midnight. There are potted plants aligning a studio entrance. There is a countdown clock. There is a fedora.
“I don’t want to put anything out that is something that I don’t love,” he coos in a public radio-esque voiceover while the real JT strolls closer to mic. “You just don’t get that everyday. You have to wait for it.” Yeah, yeah. But how could you trick us like this? As Tyra says, we were ROOTING for you! And now, sadly, we are losing our way.
Remember what happened to the boy who cried wolf, Justin? What goes around comes around. Eh, we’re not fooling anyone. Here’s to three days of planning our Timberlake ‘N Sync-era hairstyle to debut on Monday.
