Exciting news! Those prayer circles you’ve held and the many vision boards you’ve been working on for the past seven years have finally paid off: Justin Timberlake is releasing music! Of his own! Without any ties to MySpace! (We hope.) Pause for reflection, brief celebration and be sure to clear your schedule for the next three hours of so. The new song is dropping at 12:01 p.m. EST today and you’ll clearly need a few minutes to dry your happy tears and think about what this all means.
For those who need a refresher, this is the first solo material from Timberlake since his 2006 sophomore album, FutureSex/LoveSounds, released back in a time when iPhones had yet to be invented and our minds hadn’t been cluttered by the terms “Kardashian” or “YOLO.” We’ve been teased before, but this time it sounds legit: the infrequent Twitter user posted an ominous update on Wednesday night (“Thursday, January 10th, 2013 at 9:01 am PST… “) stirring speculation that something big was on its way in just a few hours.
MissInfo has confirmed the track was produced by Timberlake’s longtime partner Timbaland, and Twitter has run rampant with reports that JT’s first listen features none other than music’s first family, Beyonce and Jay-Z. If so, it’ll be the first collaboration between Timberlake and Hov, and his second with Bey, who recently told GQ that she’s working with JT (as well as Pharrell and The-Dream) on her next album. Sources also confirmed to Billboard that Timberlake has roughly 20 finished tracks he plans to release “sooner than later,” adding to our hope that his forthcoming offering is the start a full-blown return to music.
New music from Justin Timberlake and Beyonce in the SAME day? Someone up there is obviously trying to make up for the fact that Rick Ross was unceremoniously snubbed in this year’s Oscar nominations. Be sure to check back with Tuner as we keep you updated on all things JT over the course of the day.
