Adele Wins Golden Globe for "Skyfall"

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s annual celebration of movies and television is one of the more highly anticipated award shows if only for its at-times curious mixture of talent and free-flowing alcohol. (Glenn Close has had enough!) Last night’s Golden Globe Awards welcomed everyone from the Robyn-loving cast of Girls to Diddy, helping music have almost as large a presence as Ben Affleck’s facial hair did in Argo.

After receiving her first Academy Award nomination last week, Adele made a grand return to the spotlight by attending Hollywood big party on Sunday night. Because, really, it wouldn’t be an award show without her. In a night of confusing outfit choices and even more confounding speeches, the singer picked up her first trophy of the new year for her contribution to Skyfall.

Yes, sitting Bond-adjacent is simply not enough of a prize for the eight-time Grammy winner.

But even more enjoyable than hearing the track played over Daniel Craig’s cheers or getting a glimpse of those nails was experiencing the return of the Adele Thank You Speech (or “Fank You”) we’ve missed so much. “Honestly I’ve come out for a night out with my friend Ida–we’re new mums–we’ve literally come for a night out, I was not expecting this,” she explained in between giggles. “Thank you so much for letting me be a part of your world for a night. It’s amazing, we’ve been pissing ourselves laughing!” After giving NBC at least one idea for how to save its comedic reputation, Adele made thoughtful shout-outs to boyfriend Simon Konecki and her “lovely” baby boy we can only hope to meet sooner rather than later.

Sigh. There’s just something about those Brits. Adele is 1 for 1 on Skyfall-related accolades this year, with the big big show (the Oscars) set for February 24. And after that, maybe just maybe a return to the studio? C’mon, Adele. Everyone’s doing it.
