What’s up with Lupe Fiasco these days? He’s been quite lowkey since Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 1 debuted with disappointing sales. Despite his Grammy nomination for the best rap album of the year, his project came and went without much noise. (Note: I actually greatly enjoyed the LP and thought it was under-appreciated). It seemed as if his Twitter squabbles and constant verbal attacks against President Obama were turning fans off from his music.
Today the Chicago rapper announced via Twitter that the 2013 release of Food & Liquor II: he Great American Rap Album Pt. 2 had been scrapped. “Hello. A decision has been made that the project titled “F&L2 Part 2″ will be summarily cancelled for public release in 2013,” he tweeted. He also informed his 1.3 million followers the concept and title for the new album will be revealed later this year. And after updating his fans on the music he closed his Twitter account, which isn’t really closed but only has one tweet and no photo. “The #LF twitter is now closed. Please follow @DJBusy + @SNDCLSH for daily updates. Thank You,” the lone tweet reads.
“Hello” and “thank you” in tweets just don’t sound like Lupe. Who starts off a tweet with ‘hello’ anyway? Something in the milk ain’t clean. Perhaps the controversy from declaring he wasn’t voting and the low album sales was too much to handle. F&L didn’t need a part two, frankly. Bring on the new theme.
