Not only is Monday the climax of your three-day weekend, it’s an important moment in American history. Barack Obama will officially take office for his second term as President of the United States, with all sorts of pomp and circumstance that demands your full attention–so you can tell your friends and family members that you are sitting at home in your jammies in the name of patriotism. Plus, Beyoncé will be there.
Yes, you did it again, team!
The inauguration ceremony is set to feature a start-studded cast of celebrity performers, political junkies and Obama-Biden stans both on stage and down below, in what will likely be a freezing but enthusiastic crowd. After singing “At Last” by Etta James to the First Couple at 2009’s Inaugural Ball, Beyoncé will perform the National Anthem; here she is doing the same at the 2004 Super Bowl in Houston (rocket!).
Bey has already sent kind birthday wishes to the FLOTUS and BuzzFeed has already done us the favor of rounding up members of the BeyHive angling for a ticket to the event, just to see their queen in the flesh. An even bigger question: What will Jay-Z wear (on his head)? Recall his fuzzy look from 2009:
Also putting us in a particularly pro-America mood on this Friday is the official 2013 inauguration playlist, which you can stream below via Spotify, featuring the most positive and uplifting of tracks from the scheduled performers as well as a Far*east Movement track. It’s “Firework” by Katy Perry, it’s “Carry On” by fun., it’s “Breakaway” by Kelly Clarkson, it’s “Future” by… Mindless Behavior? There is a children’s concert on tap for Inauguration Weekend and we already know Malia likes boy bands. We’re guessing dad’s people put the kibosh on non-American acts for just one weekend? Get excited to see democracy in action by giving it a spin, below.
How much of a say does Professional Schmoozer Joe Biden have in song selection? It is his inauguration, too.
