Last night, 23-year-old soul singer Candice Glover became the twelfth winner of American Idol. She narrowly beat out 22-year-old country crooner Kree Harrison and previous favorites, and pop voices, Angie Miller and Amber Holcomb to the crown.
Even though ratings have been floundering for American Idol this season, the one shining constant was Candice Glover’s voice. Week after week, she awed audiences with unbelievable renditions of such classics as “Somewhere,” and contemporary songs like, “When I Was Your Man.”
Glover had auditioned before for American Idol, and been twice rejected. Even this season, she was frequently placed behind the likes of Angie Miller and Amber Holcomb. However, when she sang The Cure‘s “Lovesong” a few weeks ago, she not only laid down one of the most incredible vocal performances in American Idol history, she also inspired the moment of the season: Mariah Carey got up from the judges’ table and anointed her glitter (and no, I’m still not over it).
Candice Glover’s winning single, “I Am Beautiful,” is available for download and purchase today.
