Yeezus, Born Sinner And All The Other Memorable Religious Album Titles

Born Sinner and Yeezus have arrived officially. Today’s the day for the real thang, early leaked illegal downloads aside. And with all the talk of born sinners and Kanye as Jesus, we may need to attend tomorrow’s Wednesday night Bible Study.

Kanye West and J.Cole aren’t the first and won’t be the last to dig through the religious scrolls for a clever album title. Jay-Z upstaged both his artists last night with his announcement of Magna Carta of the Holy Grail (July 4). Did every rap artist attend a revival conference last year we don’t know about? But long before Jay-Z or Kanye or Cole there was U2‘s The Joshua Tree in 1987. Even hip-hop greats have donned themselves God’s Son like Nas did in his 2002 release. What the countless God-themed album titles says about any of the artist’s beliefs is between them and their higher power. Maybe it’ll at least disprove the Illuminati theories. As an ode to J. Cole and Kanye (may the best man sell the most records) we’ve gone back, way back, to find some memorable albums titles with a little bit of holiness.
