Joe: VH1 Soul Interview

JOE MAKES A TOP 10 DEBUT: In an extremely slow sales week, R&B holdover Joe scores the week’s top debut with Doubleback: Evolution of R&B, the singer’s tenth studio album. The album, which features guest turns from Fantasia and Too $hort, sold 31,000 copies its first week in stores, which is close to the 33,000 debut of his last effort, 2011’s The Good, the Bad and the Sexy. Elsewhere in the top 10, Wale’s The Gifted drops one spot to No. 2 while Imagine Dragons’ Night Visions, which is two months shy of its first birthday, climbs up four spots to No. 4 and brings its total sales to 1.14 million. UNCLE CHARLIE GETS A BET BOOST: Last week’s awesome tribute to Charlie Wilson on the BET Awards – did you see it? Seriously it was so awesome – helped the former Gap Band singer’s latest solo effort, Love, Charlie, bounce up 89 spots to No. 89. The album, released in January, debuted at No. 4 with 44,000 first week sales. This week it sold 4,000 copies, up from 2,200 the week before, bringing its total sales to 156,000. (For good measure, Wilson also contributes to the week’s No. 3 album; his vocals are heard on “Bound 2,” the closing track to Kanye West’s Yeezus.)
