Janelle Monáe’s The Electric Lady drops next Tuesday, September 10th, but starting today, we’re exclusively streaming the talented entertainer’s debut album – for a full week.
Now available for pre-sale, the songbird describes her sophomore effort – the follow-up to 2010’s debut LP The ArchAndroid – as another “emotion picture,” this time about her hometown of Kansas City. One thing though: it’s “Kansas City in the future… like a surreal Parliament album with lyrics by Octavia Butler and album art by Salvador Dali.”
With collaborations with stars like Erykah Badu, Miguel, Solange, Esperanza Spalding and Prince(!), Monae’s album, also known as Suite IV and V, offers sonic gifts for all. Listen to the stream above, and take a peek at the lyric-included album art too!
