Lady Gaga Shows Us Her Teeth At First-Ever YouTube Music Awards

by (@emilyexton)

In addition to Gaga, the night boasted a tasty sampling of new releases. Self-proclaimed Rap God Eminem gave audiences an early look at The Marshall Mathers LP 2 and celebrated his Artist of the Year win, while Arcade Fire shook off any hint of Sunday night blues with a live version of “Afterlife.” Starring It Girl Greta Gerwig and directed by Spike Jonze, the live video performance was a winning combination for anyone playing a game of Indie Bingo at home. Also, it rules.

In celebration of YouTube and viral pop culture goodness, there was even a slightly lame take on a once inescapable news story, as Arcade Fire’s Win Butler made a Taylor Swift-Kanye West “Imma let you finish” joke during the “Phenomenon of the Year” presentation. With no¬†Courvoisier to be found, and a less compelling candidate (sorry, Win, but “Harlem Shake” is no Beyonc√©) it couldn’t help but feel tired, or a quip you might hear your dad crack at an office holiday party. Also, hasn’t T. Swift been through enough parodies of that harrowing night to last a lifetime? There’s no denying that YouTube is a legitimate force in the entertainment industry (just ask Billboard!) but dedicating an entire night to the site remains questionable.

Have you been able to get Lady Gaga’s teeth out of your brain? Did Gaga, Em, or Greta G. steal the show? Check out a full list of winners, below.
