A Great Big World have been named VH1’s first You Oughta Know artist of 2014, and we’re excited to announce that we’ll be livestreaming a concert of theirs on January 16—that’s tomorrow night!— at 9PM/8C at agreatbigworld.vh1.com.
A Great Big World already has a big #1 hit under their belts, despite the fact that they haven’t even released a full length LP yet. Their song “Say Something,” which received a major boost when the legendary Christina Aguilera lent her vocal chops to a remix of the song, managed to climb the iTunes charts in the hours following the band’s appearance on The Voice a few months ago. The song was an immediate hit, but it initially looked like Eminem might get in the way of them reaching #1.
“We were checking the charts a whole bunch right after The Voice,” singer Ian Axel told us. “Like, every hour.”
“And Eminem was holding strong at number one,” Chad Vaccarino added.
“It wasn’t until the next day we were told we weren’t going to surpass Eminem,” Ian continued. “(But then) I was driving and Chad was sitting next to me, and then Chad announced it and I had to pull over, we were screaming. I mean it’s a huge, huge milestone for us.”
A Great Big World’s highly anticipated debut album, Is There Anybody Out There?, doesn’t drop until next Tuesday, January 21, but you can check out all of their new material by heading over to agreatbigworld.vh1.com this Thursday night, January 16, at 9/8C and checking out our exclusive livestream.
