A Great Big World Performs “This Is The New Year” Live In Concert

A Great Big World already has a #1 song under their belts (“Say Something”) and, by this time next week, we’ll know if they can add “#1 Album” to their LinkedIn profiles, too! That’s right, today is release day for the You Oughta Know artist’s debut album, Is There Anybody Out There?, an album they performed in its entirety live in New York City just last week.

The band’s origin story, if you will, is a great one. Ian Axel and Chad Vaccarino met as students as New York University, and over the course of the next few years, decided that they’d like to work together on a musical-level. So the guys set up a Kickstarter so they could get the money to record a few songs together, one of which turned out to be a track called “This Is The New Year.” That song caught the ear of a producer on Glee and ultimately turned into a major plot point on the show, which led to A Great Big World landing themselves a record deal.

So, it was no surprise that the song was met with a very warm reception at the band’s big show last week. You can watch a live clip of “This Is The New Year” above, and also a performance of the album cut “I Really Want It” below.
