Now that 2014 is in full swing, it’s time to turn our attention to the music the new year has to offer. And now that VH1 Soul You Oughta Know artist Liv Warfield is about to drop her sophomore album, The Unexpected, 2014 is about to get exponentially funkier.
An Illinois native, Warfield pretty much owned Portland’s R&B scene by the time she was discovered by Prince (yes, that Prince) in 2009. Since then, her career has been in first gear and we have no doubt that 2014 will be her year.
As a singer in Prince’s New Power Generation band, Warfield’s larger-than-life vocals have been on display for fans worldwide. Now that she’s stepping into her own sphere, how does she want her new devotees to view her sound? Warfield thrives on versatility, feeling her music has elements of various genres. “When I say alternative R&B/soul meets a little bit of rock and roll, I think it’s just all those passions of mine just kind of melted into one,” said the singer, proving that she’s hitting us with something different from what we’ve heard before.
Now that she’s based in New York City, Warfield stopped by our offices, chilled with our amazing photographer Lauren Weissler, and gave us a taste of what will certainly be one of our favorite LPs of 2014. Check out our gallery chronicling Warfield’s visit and don’t forget to pick up her album, The Unexpected, on February 18!
