It’s been weeks since the Grammy Awards where Macklemore & Ryan Lewis snagged the award for Best Rap Album, and we figured that if there were any hurt feelings about the win, they would’ve surfaced long ago. Macklemore even went as far as to send a conciliatory text to fellow contender Kendrick Lamar, and the Compton MC graciously accepted the gesture. But Drake, another nominee in the category, wasn’t impressed — and he’s being very vocal about it.
Since Macklemore posted the text he sent to Kendrick on Instagram, fans were able to debate whether or not the message was genuine. According to a Rolling Stone interview, Drake called the move “wack as f—,” and called out the Seattle rapper for a lack of self-awareness about the public apology. Drizzy also implied that perhaps there were some politics involved in Macklemore’s win, hinting that The Heist may have not actually been the best rap LP in the running.
We don’t know if Macklemore is going to respond, but with such scathing shade being thrown, we wouldn’t be surprised if a good old-fashioned rap beef was brewing.
