Lena Dunham Sends Boyfriend Jack Antonoff To Therapy In New Bleachers Music Video

Collaborating with your significant other for a music video can have varying effects on your relationship. Kanye West and Kim Kardashian are still together after their topless motorcycle ride in “Bound2″ but Katy Perry and John Mayer parted ways just a few months after mounting a bull in “Who You Love.” fun. guitarist Jack Antonoff is the latest performer to willing to risk mixing business with pleasure, by hiring his girlfriend Lena Dunham to direct the Bleachers video for “I Wanna Get Better.” Does this mean he’ll guest on Girls next season?

The video takes place in a setting that’s partial to the Girls creator: a therapist’s office, with Antonoff as the distracted listener faced with a slew of difficult patients. There’s a cameo by Parks and Recreation star and the brilliant live-Tweeter, Retta, as the irritated half of a dysfunctional relationship whose attitude falls somewhere between Donna receiving an invite to Larry’s book club and Donna reading the nasty reviews someone left about her on Yelp.

She doesn’t make an appearance in the clip, but the tone is signature Dunham in that awkwardly hilarious yet borderline uncomfortable sort of way. There are nods to abortion dogs and distracting Take Your Daughter to Work Day guests, plus the use of a recent coma as an excuse for being bad at marriage. Of course, Jack and Lena aren’t the first famous couple to collaborate on a music video. We’ll always remember Ben’s loving butt tap in J. Lo’s “Jenny From the Block” clip — RIP Bennifer — and Beyoncé and Jay’s commitment to doing at least one music video together every two years gives us reason to live. Surfboard.

Find out what Jack thought about his first live performance with Bleachers at Palladia’s EPIC. AWESOME. SHOWCASE at this year’s South By Southwest festival, in the video below.
