Kanye West and Kim Kardashian are marrying this weekend somewhere on the planet Earth. We think. Whether it’s a Parisian affair fit for the Carters or a glorious event in Florence, Italy, we know the union between one K and another can only come with some spectacle.
In case Kim and Yeezy were too wrapped up in creating a scavenger hunt for guests to follow to actually book a DJ or band for the event, I’ve come up with a foolproof Kimye wedding playlist. It’s perfect for their big night as well as your own Memorial Day weekend — when you’ll obviously be toasting this new union on the hour, every hour.
And contrary to popular assumption, it’s not all Yeezy hits. Some highlights:
1. “Cold,” Kanye West featuring DJ Khaled
The song that started it all: “And I’ll admit, I had fell in love with Kim/Around the same time she had fell in love with him.” In 2012, Kanye gave lyrical confirmation, that, yes, he was cozying up to Kim in a more-than-friends way following her split from Kris Humphries. Kim’s presence in the video further solidified their relationship, and before we knew it, Baby North was on her way. Of course, Kanye wasn’t going to miss an opportunity to take a dig at her ex: “Well that’s cool, baby girl, do ya thang/Lucky I ain’t had Jay drop him from the team.”
2. “Clique,” Kanye West, Jay Z, Big Sean
Kanye’s Cruel Summer was all about shouting out his latest love in public. He didn’t care that she was a reality television staple, or that she was able to drop her celebrity closet business only after a sex tape shot her to prominence: “My girl a superstar all from a home movie.” At least they don’t have secrets.
3. “Young and Beautiful,” Lana Del Rey
Yes, Kim and Kanye are just as upset as you are that this song was overlooked by Oscar voters. Apparently a favorite of the couple, Kanye arranged for a string section to play the Lana Del Rey track at his stadium proposal last fall. There are also reports that Lana was offered six figures to perform the song at the wedding. Stand by.
4. “Part II (On the Run),” Jay Z featuring Beyoncé
If Jay and Bey came make it through elevator fiascos, they’re obviously a couple you want to emulate.
5. “Magic,” Coldplay
Yeezy and Chris Martin collaborated on “Homecoming” all those years ago, so you know Kanye loves him some moody British rock. And considering what Chris Martin has been through in his personal life these last few months, we wouldn’t be surprised to hear he sent him an Edible Arrangement with an offer to talk it out.
