John and Luke
What city or town do you call home?
Are there any fun facts about your band?
John and Luke are cousins
What inspired the name of your band? Are there any other names you considered that didn’t make the cut?
We tried thinking of band names but eventually John had the idea to simply call ourselves “John and Luke”. The name stuck and we kept it. Since then we’ve thought about different options but with the competition coming up, we decided to keep the name.
What’s the first song you remember playing onstage? Feel free to elaborate if there is a story around it.
We co-wrote a song called “If You Love Me Let Me Go” and that was probably the first song we actually played in front of other people on a stage. We were very nervous and since then the song has developed into so much more.
You absolutely cannot perform without…
Luke hates playing without a sustain pedal, and John has to have his guitar! Shane HAS to have his drum sticks.
Do you have any pre-show rituals before you take the stage?
Luke has this weird habit of eating way to much food before he goes on stage, but it ends up working out pretty well for him once we get up there. Eating calms the nerves!
What artists made you want to play music?
For John, it was bands like Led Zeppelin and Tom Petty. For Luke it was bands like Fleetwood Mac, Muse, and Coldplay.
If you could open for any band on tour this summer, who would it be and why?
Foals, because we hung out with them when they were at a record store in Indianapolis. They seemed like really chill guys and they gave us great advice in regards to being a band. We also love their music.
What is you band’s biggest band ambition?
Our biggest ambition is to play music for thousands of people for the rest of our lives.
You just found out your record got to Number One. What’s the first thing you do?
If our record got to Number one, we’d throw a party for everyone who helped us get there. We’d definitely freak out.
Lasly, is there anything else you want to share with us?
We are extremely grateful for this opportunity, and we will give our very best throughout the competition. To say we are excited is an understatement.
