The family that tours together, stays together? Despite being the subjects of tabloid rumors spawning from a late-night elevator ride that will live in infamy, Jay Z and Beyoncé presented a united front during the opening night of their On The Run stadium tour. The couple tore through 43 songs at Sun Life Stadium in Miami on Wednesday and showed off adorable, never before seen moments from their wedding day. And Baby Blue was there, too!
Since the news of the Met Ball elevator drama, the couple previously thought to be invincible suddenly seems… normal. The Carters have been thrown into the daily gossip ring, floating right there next to Kardashians, reality stars and philandering politicians, attempting to deny, deny, deny with their joint silence and weird fake movie trailers. Now we’re hearing that Jay’s had mistresses for years and Beyoncé’s prone to violent outbursts. I don’t want to believe it; you wouldn’t think that a couple on the outs would agree to travel the country and perform together every night. But we’re talking about two of the most professional acts in the business. The show must always go on. Whatever did or didn’t go down behind closed doors, On The Run appears to work very hard to catapult Bey and Jay back atop your list of the Greatest Romances of All-Time. In addition to flirty glances, PDA and Jay bowing down to his wife of five years, the duo treated their crowd to multiple home movies, including previously unseen footage from their 2008 nuptials. Last night nearly 76,000 people gleefully watched Bey and Jay get their matching “IV” tattoos — the same ink that the former was rumored to have removed earlier this spring — and exchange wedding bands on their big day. The decision to relive — and share — this moment is a good sign these two are in it for the foreseeable future, as does sharing cheek-pinchingly cute footage of their baby girl, Blue.
For those who have been praying to the god Yonce every night and crying at their desk while listening to “Part II (On The Run),” enjoy some moments from Night 1 that successfully reaffirm our faith in their marriage.
Or, they realize she has to get her public appearances up to compete with North West.
Breaking: Blue Ivy plays the piano! She’s learning to walk! And she has nicer headphones than I do!
In closing, if you really had any doubts, Bey and Jay promise that these enviable locations and flawless smiles are indeed real life.
