As If a New Hilary Duff Single Wasn’t Enough, There’s an Album Coming This Fall

Looks like Hilary Duff‘s a triumphant return to pop music will be even bigger than we originally thought. In addition to new single, “Chasing the Sun” — which premieres at New York City’s Marquee nightclub on Thursday, and will be available everywhere July 29 — Duff’s fifth studio album is slated for a fall release.

“I took a break from music for quite awhile, but it gave me the power to choose my next steps carefully and I’m really proud of the album I’ve made,” Duff said in a press release from her label, RCA. “‘Chasing The Sun’ is a light and fun summer song that I hope helps people to feel a little more carefree.” Her last album, Dignity, dropped in 2007, so this new music is a big present for fans — seven years in the making.

It sounds like Duff is trading in the electro-pop flavor of Dignity for “an adult alternative acoustic sound,” according to album collaborator and friend Ed Sheeran. More proof? Colbie Caillat, Jason Reeves, and Toby Gad penned lead single “Chasing the Sun.”  The change in genre is just one example of the time she’s put into the record, which she calls a “labor of love.” “I’ve worked very hard and the album is a great representation of the experiences I’ve had in my life and where I want to go from here,” she explained.
