Happy birthday, Pharrell! The iconic producer/singer/designer/everything turns 41 today and there couldn’t be a more appropriate reason to celebrate his contributions to pop culture over the years. Though he wears many hats, his production resume (much of it with Chad Hugo as production duo The Neptunes) will always stand out as a huge part of what makes him an iconic figure in music. It’s not even a stretch to say that Pharrell is the greatest producer of all time, and we have proof. Check out the gallery above for a look at the 10 records that convinced us P was the best to ever do it, then watch him recount his Oscars experience in our video below.
After years of flirting, flings, and frustration, it looks like Drake and Rihanna are finally, officially in a real relationship together. They spent the better part of last month jetsetting around Europe together while Drizzy wrapped up the overseas leg of his Would You Like A Tour? run. We wouldn’t be so quick to jump to conclusions if they weren’t joined at the hip and spotted holding hands and doing everything else that couples do.
Of course, this begs the question, “Will it last?” With their on-again, off-again past, chances seem slim, but maybe this time they have it all figured out. Check out The Complete History of Drihanna in our gallery above and draw a conclusion for yourself, then watch our video breaking down the superstar pair’s ever-changing status in the video below.
Remember when rappers only used to rap? Don’t worry if you can’t. MCs have been making forays into film for decades now and, these days, it’s completely common to see them showing off their acting chops on the silver screen. Take Need For Speed for example. The high-octane car flick makes its debut in theaters today, and it’s starring none other than Scott Mescudi, better known as Kid Cudi. Cudder’s had huge looks on television in series like How To Make It In America and Brooklyn Nine-Nine, but now he’s moving into the big leagues. With a role in the much anticipated Entourage movie next year, it certainly appears as if his career as a thespian is taking off, but he still has a lot to prove. Plenty of rappers before him have been in the same position, and a good number of them made it work, transitioning to movies to smoothly that we almost forgot they used to make music. Almost. For a closer look at who we’re talking about, read on for our breakdown of the 10 Roles That Made Us Take These 10 Rappers Seriously As Actors.
With SXSW kicking off this week, it officially marks the beginning of music festival season. In 2014, that naturally makes us think about one legendary duo from Atlanta, because after several years of hiatus, OutKast has reunited to take over the circuit, starting with next month’s Coachella.
Rihanna famously begins her song “Birthday Cake” with the lyric, “It’s not even my birthday,” but that’s not the case today. The iconic pop star just turned 26, and, if her past is any indication, her future holds a lot of exciting moments. RiRi thrives on being an unpredictable, hard to nail down type of celebrity, but we’ve been watching her moves for long enough to make a few educated guesses about where she’ll take her career (and personal life) over the next 12 months. Blow out the candles and make a wish; we’re Predicting Rihanna’s 26th Year.
The Russian Police Choir open the 2014 Winter Olympics in ridiculous fashion, Mac Miller breaks down his Bright Eyes cover, and MTV gets to bottom of Demi Lovato‘s inspiration for her new tour.
