Friday Face-Off: Ja Rule vs. Foster The People

Ja Rule and Foster The People‘s namesake, Mark, don’t have a birthday this year thanks to no February 29 on the Gregorian calendar this year. Our kind hearts (and fat fingers) can’t deny anyone an occasion for cake, so today’s Friday Face-Off goes out to those unlucky leap year babes. Read more…

Friday Face-Off Oscar Edition: Eminem, Three 6 Mafia, Counting Crows & Janet Vs. Adele

Oscars_friday_faceoff

Aside from the fashion and a chance to see celebs accidentally say something stupid, Best Original Song performances is the one thing that makes the 3-hour-plus long Academy Awards bearable. This year VH1′s favorite British belter Adele will be carrying a tune and possibly a statue for “Skyfall.” But over the years many unexpected pop hits have caught the Academy’s attention. So, how does Adele’s award season favorite stack up against past Oscar winners and nominees? From Janet Jackson and Counting Crows to Three 6 Mafia and Eminem, we make a case for each. Vote on which winner or contender deserves that golden naked man most while we practice our Angelina leg.

Friday Face-Off: Michael Jackson vs. Jennifer Lopez

Whatever mistakes were made on Valentine’s Day (too much chocolate, too many ex texts) let’s hope they weren’t as regrettable as the videos in this week’s Face-Off. It’s only natural to want to document every moment of your boo time when that bastard Cupid first starts pelting arrows, but don’t make the mistake of immortalizing your lurve in a music video like Michael Jackson and Jennifer Lopez did with Lisa Marie Presley and Ben Affleck, respectively. You tell us, was “You Are Not Alone” or “Jenny From The Block” more cringe-worthy post breakup? Vote after you read our case for each, while we make conversation with these leftover candy hearts and try not to cry into our flat Champagne.  Read more…

Friday Face-Off Music Videos: Britney Spears vs. R.E.M.

So the end of the world didn’t come, but the end of the year still approaches. In the spirit of second chances, this week’s Friday Face-Off salutes the Mayan Apocalypse that never was and 2013 yet to come. Does R.E.M.‘s “It’s the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)” or Britney Spear‘s “Till The World Ends” say, sayonara 2012, best? Vote after you read our case for each, while I figure out to do with all these cases of bottled water.

Team Britney

Britney Spears “Till The World Ends - Dancing in a sewer ankle deep in feces isn’t my idea of a good time, but it beats getting impaled by a crumbling skyscrapers. Read more and vote…

Friday Face-Off: Mariah Carey vs. *NSync

‘Twas the Friday before Christmas, when all through VH1 everyone in the office was starting to hum. Beats By Dre buds were hung in ears with care in hopes a good Xmas tune soon would play there. PA’s tapped their toes all snug in their chairs, while visions of *NSync danced in their heads. And our editor with his iPad, and I mine too, listen on repeat to “All I Want For Christmas Is You.” So show us your preference, no matter your taste. Vote Mariah or *NSync to win first place! Now go, read our arguments for each cheery chart-topper while I go hang some mistletoe around the office.

Jordin Sparks Says New Music Coming In 2013, Impersonates Beau Jason Derulo

Jordin Sparks WERKED that VH1 Divas stage during her cover of “I’m Every Woman” for the Whitney Houston tribute. But Whitney’s not the only singer the American Idol winner has been covering lately.  Backstage, Jordin revealed her Top 40 radio obsessions including Rihanna’s “Diamonds.” But with plans to drop a single sometime early 2013, Jordin is most excited to sing along to her own songs. “A lot of [the music] is different from what people have heard from me or would expect,” she said. We’re intrigued, Jordin. Way to switch it up in the new year!

Speaking of New Year’s, Jordin is sure to be lip-locking with pop-star boyfriend Jason Derulo at midnight. Ever the dutiful boo, the other half of Jadin showed up at Divas to support his woman. I’m sure Jordin appreciates the love but the American Idol winner couldn’t help poking fun at Jason’s signature singing name check. Watch her adorable impersonation below! Read more…

Iggy Azalea Shows Us How To Look Hot In A Hurry With Easy Makeup Tips

If you didn’t know who Iggy Azalea was before, you do now after the Aussie MC hit the VH1 Divas stage with Natasha Bedingfield and Bootsy Collins in that gem and fringe bustier for a brilliant cover of “Groove Is In The Heart.” Besides her fire spitting skills, T.I.’s Grand Hustle rookie’s drop-dead gorgeous form was on full display. How does Iggy stay looking so fresh while sweating and grinding on stage? Well, because she’s a sweetheart (and probably pitied my own ragged appearance) the blonde beauty shared some of her makeup secrets. It may not get you a modeling contract like Iggy, but you can at least resemble a diva in under three minutes.

The final result.

Can’t get enough of Iggy’s look? Check out head-to-toe photos of the outfit Iggy was rocking during her down time at Divas rehearsals below and try your best to keep up with “Boss Lady’s” style. Read more…

VH1 DIVAS Rehearsals Recap Part 2: Adam Lambert Glitters Softly, Carries A Big Stick

Less than an hour until Adam Lambert will hit the stage as host and performer extraordinaire for tonight’s VH1 DIVAS. Can’t wait that long? Check out exclusive photos from the restricted set. Day two of rehearsals was all about Adam who practiced his solo numbers (yes plural) plus his amazing collaboration with Keri Hilson and Kelly Rowland in tribute for Donna Summer. After hearing and seeing the voices that I heard meld together over a remix to her greatest hits, I don’t doubt somewhere the Disco Queen is singing “I feel loved, I feel loved, I feel…” You get the picture.

GIF Wall: VH1 DIVAS Show Off Their Dance Moves Backstage

I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to dance.  And it looks like this years’ VH1 Divas theme isn’t just getting to me. All weekend long our performers have been showing us their go-to dance moves, so we put them in a GIF wall (the only appropriate place).  Looks like Adam Lambert‘s head-snapping ways are contagious.

Keri Hilson did the hustle, Iggy Azalea did the Macarena, and Jordin Sparks twerks…well, in private, she says. For us she did the salsa while Ledisi did the cabbage patch, Natasha Bedingfield showed us a sexy hip wiggle and Melanie Fiona made up what she calls her “itchy dress dance.” Check them all out below and let’s see if any of these moves make it into the show at 9PM ET/8C.
