After more than 40 years in the public eye, Sir Elton John has created countless songs that have helped reinvent the music industry. He’s also extremely outspoken and opinionated, which in a world of media training and image consultants, is rare for a celebrity. Most of us can hardly share a room with our younger siblings, let alone a cramped tour bus. So what was The National front man Matt Berninger thinking when he invited his younger brother Tom along for his band’s High Violet tour? And what can happen when someone who has never made a documentary before decides to film every waking hour on the road? Much more than anyone anticipated.
With the exception of Pharrell, it’s been a slow start to 2014 in terms of new music we want to listen to while jumping around our bedroom. Thankfully Sia just went and infused our never-ending winter with some much-needed powerful pop, sure to carry us into spring. At the surface, “Chandelier” — which many are calling the best “Rihanna song” of 2014 –is an unapologetic party anthem that celebrates excessive drinking and hazardous at-home aerial activities. Before he surprised the music, tech and taco crowds with a surprise show at South By Southwest, Justin Bieber gave a deposition in Miami on Thursday. Glee star Lea Michele is the latest television actor to release original music. We’ve been down this road with our favorite TV stars before, but working on a show so heavily rooted in performance, and having Broadway experience, makes her one of the best-suited actors to step into the booth. Her songs have already hit the top of the charts; now it’s up to Lea and her collaborators to create some original smash hits.
When it comes to crowning the queen of musicians who love taking selfies on Instagram, it’s a toss up between Nicki Minaj and Rihanna. We’ve seen scandalous outfits, and read what are at times lengthy captions that make it clear they DGAF. And with each snapshot from a ski vacation or look inside their closet, we start to feel like we know these superstars a little better. But are we close enough to learn their shower routine? Nicki seems to think so!
