Remember when Justin Timberlake disappeared from music for, like, five years? Well, this year, he completely flipped the script; his presence is now inescapable. He released The 20/20 Experience: Pt. 1 in March, went on tour with Jay Z in July, reunited with *NSYNC at the VMAs in August, and is set to drop The 20/20 Experience: Pt. 2 next week. Oh, and did we mention that he went and covered an old Jacksons track for the BBC yesterday?
All in a day’s work, right? Miley Cyrus appears hellbent on generating controversy everytime she steps out in public these days, and her performance at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas over the weekend was no exception.
Tomorrow sees the release of a very special box set that celebrates the 20th anniversary of Nirvana‘s third and final studio album, In Utero. The “Super Deluxe Box Set” is filled with over 70 remastered, remixed, rare and unreleased recordings, including B-sides, compilation tracks, never-before-heard demos and live material. Part of the live material that is included is footage of the band’s legendary 1993 Live And Loud performance, and VH1 is excited to share some never before seen rehearsal footage of that show with you today. Above, we have video of the band rehearsing “Radio Friendly Unit Shifter,” and below, footage of “Very Ape” (including a moment where Kurt Cobain gets behind the drum kit).
“This song’s about getting old, which I freak out about.” That’s Lorde, VH1′s current You Oughta Know artist, on her new song “Ribs,” which she debuted at the Greenwich Village club Le Poisson Rouge when she made her North American debut there last month. Considering that Lorde is but 16-years-old, we don’t think that aging is something that she need worry much about, but when the result is something as gorgeous as “Ribs,” we’ll begrudge her on that front (but just this once!).
KISS mastermind Gene Simmons is not only a founding member of one of the most successful rock bands of all-time, but he’s also the star of Gene Simmons Family Jewels, a reality TV show on A&E that has been on the air since 2006. Starring alongside him on that program is Sophie Tweed Simmons, his daughter with longtime ladyfriend (and now wife!) Shannon Tweed. It’s unclear whether Sophie’s recent excursion to the sandy beaches of Maui was for a future episode of Family Jewels, but either way, cameras materialized while she was playing in the surf with her friends.
If you were to pen a list of The World’s Most Hated Bands, the Eagles would almost certainly be at or near the top (especially if your name is Jeffrey Lebowski). Now, we’re not saying that said assessment is fair, exactly, but this fact is undeniable. So, just how much do people hate the musical output of Don Henley, Glenn Frey and the rest of the laidback desperados who make up the Eagles? Well, one South Carolina man’s refusal to stop pumping Eagles tunes after repeated requests recently resulted in him getting stabbed (!!!).
Lorde, VH1′s September You Oughta Know artist, definitely has an obsession with royalty. She confessed as much to us when our own Meghan O’Keefeinterviewed Lorde recently, and taking a close listen to the tracks that make up her upcoming Pure Heroine LP, there are more than a few mentions. That theme is most clearly evident on her hit song “Royals,” but here on her track “Still Sane (Track 10),” which was filmed live at New York City’s Le Poisson Rouge back on August 6, she makes her intentions known: “Hey little boy, I’m coming for the crown.”
