From The College Dropout To Miley’s VMA Performance: The Most Iconic Bears In Music

bears header

Ten years ago, Kanye West debuted his iconic mascot, The College Dropout bear. The animal became the look and image of Kanye’s first three albums before the rapper moved onto different iconography. But the mascot is not the only popular furry mammal in music. There are a number of artists that have utilized the animal in music videos and performances. Miley Cyrus famously usurped the stuffed creature for her live performance of “We Can’t Stop” at the MTV Video Music Awards and then there are those bearish bands, Grizzly Bear and Teddybears, who have become famous in their own right.

Ahead of Paramore and Fall Out Boy‘s summer tour, Hayley Williams and Pete Wentz play a little game of “Who is most likely to…” The musicians were put to the test when VH1 challenged them to answer questions related to eating craft services, quitting music to live on a farm, starting a Twitter feud, or getting left behind on a tour stop. Apparently the last one has happened a few times. Has either band ever heard of the buddy system?!

Things Beyonce Does In The Kitchen (Besides Cooking)

beyonce-party-2 copy

Throughout Beyonce‘s solo career, she’s made a number of references to her time in the kitchen. However, what’s become evidently clear is that there’s not much cooking going on in there. On her latest single, “Drunk in Love,” Beyonce asks “We woke up in the kitchen saying, ‘How the hell did this shit happen?’ Well first off, you were drunk Beyonce. But secondly you weren’t in the kitchen for  food. In a review of Beyonce, Jody Rosen wisely pointed out that this line was an answer to 4‘s “Countdown” when Beyonce was “All up in the kitchen in my heels / dinnertime.” This is not the first or last time that sex or something else has gone on in the kitchen. We dissect some of Bey’s saucer lyrics to determine just exactly what she does in there.

The 10 Best MTV Unplugged Albums

View Photo Gallery

It may have come as a bit of a shock when MTV announced Miley Cyrus was reviving Unplugged, if only for a night. However, the singer is the perfect artist to strip down her music for an intimate evening with fans. Her powerful vocals are rarely showcased on her number 1 hits, such as “We Can’t Stop” and “Party in the U.S.A.” In fact, it wasn’t until Cyrus’ Saturday Night Live performance that many even remembered there was some true talent behind all the nipple pasties and twerking craziness.

What does remain to be seen is how will her showcase compare to the long list of artists to unplug before her? Will she crash and burn on stage like Lauryn Hill? Highly unlikely. Or will she produce one of the great Unplugged performances like Eric Clapton? Also unlikely.

However, with only a few artists to produce actual records based on these shows, she has a chance to join the list of the best Unplugged albums. 10,000 Maniacs comes is at number 10, with a solid yet basic acoustic set that Cyrus could easily knock off. Though, she’ll have to work at it if she wants to topple Jay Z, Nirvana or Tony Bennett.

Everybody Dance Now! Taylor Swift + Katy Perry Lead Dance Party At Grammys

Last night at the Grammys, everybody was getting jiggy with it thanks to a number of energetic performances. Daft Punk (with Stevie Wonder, Niles Rodgers and Pharrell Williams) inspired everyone to do their best white girl dance as they performed their undeniably catchy hit single, “Get Lucky.” It literally felt like everyone was on their feet having a good time. But who can blame them? We were dancing in our living room.

Meanwhile, Taylor Swift couldn’t help but out Taylor herself with a bunch of dance moves of her own. Beyonce and Jay Z are singing? Taylor’s got a couple of moves for them. Willie Nelson is on stage? Sure, she can throw her hands in the air.
