While Beyonce failed to give us that fifth album fans have been dying for, she did make good on the Mrs. Carter Show World Tour. If there was one thing that kept us talking about Beyonce, it was the tour itself. Thanks to paparazzi, phone-addicted fans and social media, we were able to keep up on every moment of the tour.

Every year there’s always a crop of breakout stars but what about those who have been around for awhile? 2013 saw the return of a number of artists who raced back to prominence by topping the charts. Among the most notable returns are Justin Timberlake and Daft Punk, both of who released new albums after nearly almost a decade of no new music. The easily dominated the year in music thanks to their radio-friendly jams and diehard fans’ zealous appetite.
It’s Britney, bitch. And she’s back with a new album (Britney Jean) and a Las Vegas residency to close out 2013. Leave it to the singer to make us work all year just to hear some new music. But that’s okay, because there’s so much Britney to enjoy. After 15 years in the music business, Spears has left us with a number of memories and a few not-so-easy-to-forget moments. We thought this would be a great time to break down the singer’s career from A to Z.
The BBC Live Lounge is known for producing stellar live covers of pop songs. Just in its seventh year, the ongoing series has quickly become a popular way to explore new ground with hit songs of the past year while showcasing the amazing talent of the artists who owned the past twelve months. Florence Welch, Jamie Cullum, Taio Cruz have all made their way through the studio to produce a rocking cover jam. This year proved to be no different. Miley Cyrus, Vampire Weekend and Bastille all knocked it out of the park with unexpectedly amazing covers that really made one wonder if they should have sung the song in the first place.
No two You Oughta Know artists are more in love than Amanda Sudano-Ramirez and Abner Ramirez of JOHNNYSWIM. The duo’s passion could be seen on stage as they performed “Heart Beats” and their new single, “Diamonds.” Sudano’s raspy voice sounded haunting as she tore through “Heart Beats.” But even that couldn’t distract from the love the two had for each other while on stage. At one point, the two turned to each other and it was clear that this what they were brought together to do.
HAIM, Kodaline and Lorde are just three artists to emerge this year who have challenged our ability to talk out loud. On paper, each of the artist’s on-stage monikers look simple enough, but all of them are trickier than expected. No matter how hard we try, we always say “HAIM” wrong! Thankfully, these emerging artists sat down with VH1 to teach us how to say their names.
Lorde has had a big year. The 17-year-old New Zealander blasted onto the charts with “Royals” and she recently stole the spotlight during VH1′s You Oughta Know In Concert special with a special performance that included a joint cover of Sheryl Crow’s “Strong Enough” with the lovely ladies of HAIM, as well as cuts from her debut album, Pure Heroine. In addition to her chart-topper and “Team,” Lorde performed “Buzzcut Season,” a track that we are hoping becomes her third single.
Lady Gaga has been on an artistic warpath to make her new album, Artpop, a success. The publicity tour has taken her all over the world, as she hypes her latest release while also attempting shock and awe with her new art-inspired outfits. At media appearances, the YouTube Music Awards and her album release party, she’s worn everything from a flying dress to peacock-inspired body suit. Only Gaga can pull off such looks. It’s after all why she’s Gaga! Check out all her outrageous looks from the good to the bad to the Houndstooth-y.
With releases from Eminem (The Marshall Mathers LP 2), Jay Z (Magna Carta Holy Grail) and even Kanye West (Yeezus), it’s clear that there’s no stopping rappers despite their increasing age. In fact, those three represent a new era in hip hop as rappers edge closer to 40 and are still producing new albums. However, as they go from mainstream artists to classic rappers, are they maintaining the sales they once were? Here at VH1 we decided to take a look at what the peak age is for the rap game and how just these artists are fairing in their golden years.
Since day one of The Mrs. Carter Show world tour, Beyonce has been making headlines.
