Hear The New Britney Disc on Tuesday!

blackout.jpg

If controversy is your cup of tea, be here Tuesday morning to hear Britney Spears‘ wildly-anticipated CD, Blackout. Lots of Brit tracks have hit the Web in various forms during the last few weeks, but Tuesday is the day when the real deal comes to town. Many of the songs are said to have a synth-driven dance vibe, a la the lead track, “Gimme More.” One, “Get Naked (I Got a Plan),” certainly has sex on its mind. Pundits have said that the album is more impressive than one might think given the singer’s recent escapades. At any rate, the ball will be in your court. We expect lots of comments when you’re done listening to the CD in its entirety courtesy of VH1′s The Leak. As a matter of fact, weigh in now: will the disc live up to Brit’s previous work?

Make the jump to see Blackout‘s final track listing. Watch a fun overview of Brit’s career in Box Set.

DVD Debut: Megatron vs Optimus Prime!!!

Transformers
Don’t search for the new DVDs every week. Come here and we’ll tell you about each title – even if it’s got a smelly side.

Transformers (Two Disc Special Edition)

Thanks to the miracle of the fast forward button, most of the nonsense on this blockbusting behemoth can be skipped over in favor of what we all paid $10 to see: Megatron and Optimus Prime kicking the living diesel out of each other. Pieced together from leftover screenwriting seminars and slumming actors (Jon Voight maybe, but John Turturro is better than this), even director Michael Bay can’t quite bring this junkyard dog to life. The two-disc special edition features Bay commentary and many, many featurettes that provide a peek into the Armageddon helmer’s creative frenzy.

Grindhouse Presents Planet Terror

If Quentin Tarantino‘s half of the Grindhouse road-show subverted the genre, buddy Robert Rodriguez plays it straight — and makes one of his best movies since Desperado. Amid much surface noise and “Aw man . . .” edits, a Texas town, led by stripper-turned-stand-up comic Rose McGowan, fights off an invasion of organ-munching undead. Rodriguez’s commentary holds no bars, and adds value to the package.

Win Tix to the Led Zep Reunion!

Led Zeppelin
The latest issue of Q magazine finds Robert Plant saying that the “idea of going back to all that again is enough to make me break out in hives.” In this case, “all that” is the much buzzed-about Led Zeppelin reunion, so Plant is a bit of a fibber. As you know, the rock world is celebrating the gathering of the singer, Jimmy Page, and bassist John Paul Jones in the November tribute to their pal and Atlantic Records founder, Ahmet Ertegun. More than a million requests have been made for the 10 thousand available tickets. Meaning lots of people aren’t going to make it to this wildly exclusive show. But you might. Take your chances on our Led Zeppelin Live in London Sweepstakes, and you and pal might be whisked away to the year’s biggest rock show.

Perhaps you know by now that the group’s entire catalog is finally hitting the digital music services on November 13. One of the last digital hold-outs, the band and their money men will now let you crank MP3s of “Dazed and Confused,” “Moby Dick,” and a little something called “Stairway To Heaven.” Guess they knew we were tired of hearing “Rock ‘n’ Roll” in that Cadillac commercial. Check Zep videos at VH1 Classic. Read a classic interview with Jimmy Page.

PS: While connecting with Page has been a bit tough over the years, Plant’s got a new partner and a new disc that you might find intriguing.

Two Turntables & An Arsenal

ti.jpg

Tell us again why private citizens – even those with good/evil artistic personality splits – need automatic weapons? By now you know that T.I. had to skip the BET Awards show on Saturday because he was answering questions from the ATF in ATL regarding his purchase of machine guns and silencers. He’s looking at federal charges, and he’s looking at a lot more than a slap on the wrist, jail-wise.

What are you thoughts on our man and his gun fetish? Should he wind up behind bars?

Snoop Dogg: Gin, Juice, and Lysol

snoopbust.jpgMurder wasn’t the case, just carrying a deadly weapon. But the penance has been assigned. Snoop Dogg, one of our heroes in this year’s Hip Hop Honors, will be removing trash and scrubbing toilets on an Orange County clean-up crew. About a year ago, the rap star was busted at an L.A. airport – he had a collapsible baton in his belongings. He plead guilty, and is now about to serve 160 hours of community service. He’s also kicking $10K to the local charity, Right Trak.

Justice on Kimmel: Halloween Hits Early

It wasn’t Live Earth or the Dream Concert, just the Jimmy Kimmel show. But Michael Jackson, Prince, Rod Stewart, Stevie Wonder, and Rick James all united on-stage for a throwback disco ditty that may be junk but sure is juicy. Justice, the French electronica outfit, is officially in the house with its new Daft Punk meets The Go! Team workout tune, “D.A.N.C.E.” And you thought that Gorillaz were the only production team working the cartoon character shtick.

Friday morning query: Will you forward this to a friend over the weekend?

Laff + Learn: “Pop Up Video” Returns

feistfall1.jpg

How many famous “Feists” are there? Which breed of dogs are “yappy”? What are some “hopes” that all teenagers share? Can you define the term “Jazz Hands”? You can’t answer any of these questions? C’mon, you need to put some Pop on your celly.

A decade ago VH1′s Pop-Up Video franchise wooed millions with its blend of cool music clips and odd-logic factoids. Now its back, designed to deliver info tidbits while you enjoy one of your fave artists. Feist‘s “1234,” Gwen‘s “Hollaback Girl,” Fall Out Boy‘s “Thnks fr th Mmrs” – there are plenty to choose from. The Beastie Boys will hip you to the philosophy of John Locke and Jay-Z will tell you about the loot made by lady pimps. Pop Up Video To Go – make your phone a bit more fun.

Springsteen Live Tonight on VH1!!!

The BossWhere’s the best place to see Bruce Springsteen? Don’t make me actually write down the answer – you know it’s Jersey. Those fans without tickets to this evening’s E Street Band bash at Continental Arena in East Rutherford (which is most of the people on the planet) can get a fix. At 8 pm EST, we’re cutting into the show and pulling out a couple performances for you. One tune is definitely “Radio Nowhere,” the blistering firebomb from the singer’s new Magic. The other is a Springsteen classic that the guys are keeping us guessing about. We’ll find out when they tear into it.

And don’t forget: Tivo fiends need to set their controls for the all-Bruce marathon that’s taking place today on VH1 Classic. The channel is awash in documentaries, live performances, “Storytellers” footage, and other great stuff.

If you’re looking to get tickets to some of the E Street shows, the tour rolls on at these stops.

What classic song do you think the band will play tonight on VH1?

How Ya Like Me Now? Hip-Hop Honors 07

morgan.jpg

Welcome, y’all. We’re finally rolling on our big show and want you to participate by blasting off comments on all the action. Who’s rocking? Who’s looking sharp? Who’s dropping the ball? Where were you when you first heard that track? What MCs are you listening to these days? Stake your claim in the comments section and pass the ball around.

IM a pal right now and get on it, we’re about to start.

10:01: Connecting the dots between Paid in Full and “Laffy Taffy.” Not bad, TM.

10:07: Holla! Guess will.i.am did the best “ra-ta-ta-ta,” but that whole spray of Missy imitators was sweet. Flipping it and reversing it…and what about Missy’s Prince shirt?

10:13: What are Missy‘s hippest tracks? And what’s Tweet been up to?

10:15: Wonder if Eve does look like a Halle Berry poster?Timbaland at VH1?s Hip Hop Honors 2007

10:18: Nelly F. definitely learned a thing or two from her time spent at Timbaland U.

10:20: I’m thinking Mary J’s Chevy tune is hipper than T.I.‘s Chevy tune.

10:24: Diddy rocking Teddy. If you think he’s red-zoning, punch up “My Prerogative” and pretend you’re back in the Arsenio era.

Ne-Yo at VH1?s Hop Hop Honors 200710:30: Dude, when’s Doug E. Fresh getting his day in the sun?

10:30: Let us know if you have Superhead‘s number in yr celly.

10:40: How many of you guys are downloading “No Diggity” right now?

10:44: Looks like Virginia has been good to Teddy Riley. Zoom Zoom.

10:47: When Busta‘s adrenaline is up in the trillions, we got trouble. Guess that Tribe salute is going to rock.

10: 50: Anyone here ever mix that wild style mess that Tracy just talked about? Ketchup?

10:59: Lots of old school everything in the Wild Style nod, but leave it to KRS-One to bring Jena 6 into the action.

11:07: Brooklyn is in the house. What’s the cooler WHODINI joint, “Friends” or “Freaks”?

11:11: How many Mr. Magic fans out there? Give mom a call and find out what the story is.

Nelly at VH1?s Hop Hop Honors 200711:13: “If you need a beat, take one of mine” – THAT’S how they shared back then.

11:19: Could these dances have come out out of ATL?

11:22: Keitel rhyming – guess hip-hop has gone into weird places.

11:25: The first disc Snoop bought was “Ring My Bell.” What’s the first one you bought?

11: 28: Quick vote: Does Ice-T still have it?Snoop and Pharrell at VH1?s Hop Hop Honors 2007

11:35: That’s some major bling on Snoop‘s mic hand. They got a safe in the green room?

11:51: No one’s got a voice like Q-Tip.

11:56: Lots on energy going down here. Just about time for some label to swoop in and kick a new disc by Tribe, yes?

11:59: And we out. Who’s up for the Gotti story? Talk amongst yourselves…
