I have a dark secret I need to get off my chest: I still freaking love American Idol. But that’s neither here nor there. The important thing is that you watch this glorious clip from the first round of auditions in Keith Urban‘s hometown of Nashville. When Idol hopeful Michael Simeon stepped in front of judges with THOSE BLUE EYES (#swoon) to sing Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me,” he crooned his way into the hearts of every single person in America. But he was just getting started.

It’s clear from the very outset of Green Days‘s video for “Oh Love,” the first single from the first of three LPs that they’ll be releasing over the next 6 months or so, that they’re putting “protest rock” firmly in their rear view mirror. So much so that it takes nearly 30 seconds until we even get a glimpse at Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool. Instead, viewers are treated to images that are clearly the precursor to a party: Long eyelashes, sequins, tattoos, beautiful babes in fishnet stockings, take-out Chinese food and more than a few beers flood the screen as Green Day get ready to take the stage.
Olympians, Olympians, Olympians…we really can’t get enough of them! So of course we were excited to hear about who gets Ryan Lochte ready for competition (and we’re not talking about coaches or trainers.) Before hitting the pool deck, Lochte turns up some Lil Wayne in his headphones. We weren’t too surprised to hear that he’s such a huge Weezy fan. It was pretty clear as soon as he flaunted those red, white and blue grills, the fact that he designs his own out-of-this-world shoes (you know, the green the ones completely covered in green rhinestones) and how he calls his style “Rockstar Swagger.”
But in addition to all of those clues, there were some more obvious ones. The number one song on his pregame playlist is “Sky’s The Limit” by Lil Wayne and also on there is “Shine.” Did you know Lochte has a dog? Well, he has a Doberman that he loves more than anything whose name is Carter. Yes, named after Dwayne Michael Carter, aka Lil Wayne. After a disappointing loss last night, Lochte took to Twitter to show his Weezy love: “everyone is selling dreams until you can buy one” and “all my problems would be second and all my worries would be gone.” They’re both lyrics taken from the “Fire Flame Remix” by Birdman featuring Lil Wayne. Lochte’s expressed time and time again how badly he want to meet his favorite artist. In an interview with Yahoo! Sports Fourth Place Medal, he said “I still haven’t to this day met Lil Wayne. And I’m dying to meet him.”
After all the ass-kicking that Lochte’s team is doing in London, how could Weezy not fulfill this wish?

In a recent Rolling Stone article, A$AP Rocky explained that “nowadays, everybody wanna be weird. We know how to manifest being weird. We know we some weird-ass looking motherf**kers, and we know we do some weird sh*t.” He continued, “But at the same time, we some geniuses.”
While we’re not entirely sure that we agree with the “genius” tag, it does seem that suddenly every artist is out to “out-weird” each other. Whether it’s what Ke$ha‘s studding, what shoes Lil Wayne‘s rocking, or what Lil B‘s prophesizing, artists are competing to be the most unique and we just can’t get enough of it. Normal is just so boring, isn’t it? The art of music is all about expressing individuality in its purest form, and artists who don’t just let their tunes do the talking are the most appealing to us. We love these artists for embracing their individuality, their unique weirdness, that sets them apart. Brace yourself for our list of the Top 10 Weirdos in Music Today (And Why We Love Them For It).
Florence Welch is going to need a generous dosage of green tea to go with her two festival date cancellations. Florence and the Machine will no longer be performing in Benicassim in Spain on July 12th and Optimus Alive in Portugal on July 14th because Flo has “sustained a vocal injury” according to her personal twitter. She said of her famously eerie voice that she “felt something snap, it was very frightening..” She later tweeted thanking her fans for their love and support.
We’ve seen what can happen when artists don’t take care of their most prized possession — their vocal cords. We’ve watch Adele fall victim to this again and again, having to cancel tours left and right, although it hasn’t exactly stunted her climb to the top of the charts. John Mayer had to cancel appearances as well and wasn’t able to promote his May 22 release, Born and Raised.
All we’re saying is take all the time you need, Flo, and rest up your perfect pipes! Everyone here at VH1 is wishing you a speedy recovery.
