Gotye’s Voice May Have Been Taken Off T.I.’s “Memories Back Then” But Peep The “Somebody That I Used To Know” Bassline Sample

A lone woman on a track with three great emcees outshines her male peers. Allow us to introduce you to Kris Stephens. T.I.‘s “Memories Back Then” featuring B.o.B, Kendrick Lamar and Kris Stephens on the chorus should’ve made Trouble Man: Heavy Is The Head. Originally the banger was titled “Somebody That I Used To Know” with a sample from Gotye from his song of the same name, according to Hip Hop Wired. It’s assumed a sample clearance is why we have the new version with vocals by T.I.’s artist Kris Stephens. And no shade to Gotye at all because we adore him, but we couldn’t imagine this track without Kris’s sultry voice. Read more…

50 Cent Finally Speaks On Chelsea Handler And Ciara Fiasco Without Really Saying Much

Just when you thought you’d never have to hear about 50 Cent‘s old fling with Chelsea Handler again, 50 does an hour and 15 minute interview with Howard Stern. After his one-on-one with Oprah which addressed much of what folks wanted to know, who knew there was even more to divulge. One thing about Howard is he wastes no time cutting to the chase.

Howard flat out tells 50 he was disturbed by Chelsea’s comment that “all my white friends think it’s hilarious” that she was dating the Queens rapper. Of course 50 makes excuses for Chelsea’s liberal-racism saying her comment had more to do with his image than race. Remember Chelsea accused Ciara of being the cause of her and 50’s breakup. Until now he has remained mute on the topic. First things first: Is Chelsea any good in bed? “Tell her I called her Gator. She’ll know what I’m talking about,” 50 responds. Read more…

2 Chainz + 2 Broke Girls = An Episode Worth Watching

“2 broke girls, and one rich black guy.” – 2 Chainz

You never know where a catchy rap name turned slogan like “2 Chaiiiinz” will lead to. Georgia rapper 2 Chainz will make his TV debut on CBS’s comedy series 2 Broke Girls on Monday, February 11. A day after the Grammys airs 2 Chainz plays himself on an upcoming episode where Max (Cat Dennings) and Caroline (Beth Behrs) are headed to the Grammys after meeting a big time record label executive who is so smitten by Max he flies the two to L.A. via private plane for the awards show. What’s Up With Lil’ Kim Shooting A Video Titled “Jay-Z” With Mob Affiliated Tony Testa And Mob Wives’ Carla Facciolo?

Lil’ Kim just refuses to appease her day-one fans with banging new cuts from a classic new album. We’re still waiting on you, Kim. When she’s not breaking up to makeup with her boyfriend on Twitter she’s making a video named “Jay-Z” complete with real-life mob affiliations. “Jay-Z” as a title though? Jay‘s people will be expecting a check from using the likeness of his name.

Kim has been using mob references in her music for years and in recent days has been hanging with Mob Wives’ Drita DaVanzo. It’s not surprising Tony Testa, whose uncle Joseph Carmine Testa was convicted of being the head of the Gambino crime family, along with Mob Wives’ Carla Facciolo were spotted on the set. Adele Is Going To Make The “Skyfall” With A Comeback Performance At The Oscars

Certainly you haven’t forgotten about the soulful British chanteuse who owned 2012 with her diamond-selling 21. Adele‘s 19 followed by 21 were all about heartbreak. There was nothing for the make-us-cry-with-emotion singer to write or sing about after falling madly in love with Simon Konecki. After the 2012 Grammys she took a hiatus from music to do things rich people in love do– having a baby whose name she won’t reveal yet (more on that in a bit). As she slowly creeps back into music with the James Bond 007 theme song “Skyfall” her presence has been requested for an Oscars performance to which she’s happily obliged. Read more…

Cruel Winter Is Not Happening, Folks, And We’re Quite Ok With That

We’re not over how disappointing Cruel Summer was. Imagine our relief when Common squashed all the rumors of a G.O.O.D. Music Cruel Winter album in the works. In theory a collective project of G.O.O.D. Music’s finest–Big Sean, Pusha T, Teyana Taylor and 2 Chainz–sounded marvelous. And it bares mentioning Kanye West has yet to create a less than stellar album in the nine years since his first debut. Unfortunately Cruel Summer was mostly forgettable. You played it over and over hoping it’d get better. It never did. Read more…

Kanye West, Kings Of Leon And Mystery Act Headline 2013 Governors Ball With Performances By Nas, Miguel, The Lumineers

The Governors Ball Music Festival in New York City has absolutely nothing to do with the governor just in case you were wondering. And while the three day event of diverse acts is five months away, an official lineup announcement video dropped naming two of the three headliners. Kanye West and Kings of Leon are headlining the festival along with a mystery act that hasn’t been disclosed yet. A month before Kanye’s second-coming baby is born he’ll hit the stage at Randall’s Island. Read more…

Lil Wayne’s “Staring At The World” Further Proves He Has Fallen Off

I take no joy in saying Lil Wayne fell off.

Proud southerner here. For that reason I’ve listened to Lil Wayne’s music since he debuted with Hot BoysGet It How U Live in 1996. Over the years I’ve closely followed Wayne’s career and progression from 1999’s The Block Is Hot to 2004’s Tha Carter to 2011’s Tha Carter IV, and all the albums and mixtapes in between; and like slews of southern hip-hop heads, we’ve been fans since he was a 15-year-old kid.

Today I listened to “Staring At The World” from his forthcoming I Am Not A Human Being 2 barely able to stomach the auto-tuned screeching chorus or the struggle lyrics. What has happened with Weezy? Trust I’m not one of the music fans who loathes when an artist with a 20 year career evolves. Change is good; it can be great. But whatever change Weezy’s made in the last four years isn’t one that has advanced his style. His verses, songs and albums are getting progressively worse. Read more…

Tamar Braxton’s “Love And War” Is Like A Sexy Photoshoot On The Beach

Tamar Braxton is stepping from behind her sister Toni‘s shadows. With the help of her friend Lady Gaga her first single “Love And War” shot to No. 1 on the iTunes charts within 24 hours of its release. Last night the Walid Azami directed visuals to the beautiful ballad debuted on BET’s 106 & Park. Snapshots of Tamar are captured throughout the minimalist black and white video which opts for serene scenery opposed to a Benny Boom-esque dramatic mini-film. Read more…
