Azealia Banks Doesn’t Care About Harlem Solidarity, Disses Jim Jones In “Succubi”

Azealia Banks drops diss track "Succubi"

Not that Azealia Banks didn’t clap back at Jim Jones on Twitter during their medium rare beef last week. She did. The beef quickly turned from medium rare to well done when the Harlem newbie hit the studio and dropped “Succubi” only days after Jones called her a “slore” on Twitter. A Harlem rapper battling a fellow Harlem rapper takes us back to 2004. Read more…

Drake Has More No. 1 Hits On The R&B/Hip-Hop Charts Than Jay-Z

Drake Passes Jay-Z's Record of R&B and Hip Hop No. 1s

People can keep on talking about Drake executive producing Aaliyah‘s posthumous album while he breaks records. It’s official. Drake has the most No. 1 singles on the Billboard R&B/Hip Hop charts with 10 hits including the recent collaboration with 2 Chainz for “No Lies.” He can thank 2 Chainz later. Unexpectedly the YMCMB rapper passed Jay-Z who previously held the title with nine No. 1s on the same charts. The total number includes both individual songs and collaborations. Who would have thought the guy with some of the most regrettable go-to looks would break a veterans record so early in his career? His boss Lil Wayne is third on the list with eight No. 1s  and Kanye West‘s not far behind with six. Weezy really did cultivate the Toronto rapper so he could take over the rap game one R&B/Hip Hop hit at a time. Read more…

T.I. Pops Off On Instagram Over Rude Comment Made To His Stepdaughter

T.I. Goes Off On Instagram Over His Daughter

There’s no denying that T.I. is a family man. And a bit of a hot head. On his show T.I. & Tiny: The Family Hustle it was quite apparent that there wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for his wife and kids. That includes going “H.A.M.” on Instagram over inappropriate comments to his step daughter. His 16-year-old stepdaughter Zonnique of OMG Girlz posted a photo of herself on the photo sharing site. Harmless enough, right? It was all good until a guy commented, “Can we f—?” As a father, the King of the south didn’t appreciate such a crass remark. He replied to the suitor to let him know what would not be tolerated. Read more…

Spice Girls Are Going To Take Us Back To The 90s With Olympics Closing Ceremony Performance

Olympics Closing Ceremony

This year’s Olympics has been a whirlwind of fun that is sadly coming to an end this Sunday. After much frantic excitement, loud cheers rooting for our favorite athletes and teams, we’re looking forward to Sunday’s A Symphony Of British Music closing ceremony concert. A gaggle of UK artists will serenade the 10,000 athletes that competed in this year’s Olympics in a televised concert. Rumored artists aside, and there are plenty, we know for sure the Spice Girls will reunite to take us back to the good ‘ol days of “Wannabe,” and we couldn’t be more ecstatic. Read more…

Adam “MCA” Yauch’s Will Prohibits Advertising From Using His Image Or Music

MCA's Will Prohibits Use Of His Music In Any Advertising

We still can’t believe Beastie BoysAdam “MCA” Yauch is gone. He kept his word on never selling out to corporate, though, and even in death he’s honoring that promise. DNA Info reports that MCA’s last will and testament specifically instructed that his image, music and any art he’s created be prohibited from use in advertisement. Considering the number of ads where deceased stars like John Lennon, Kurt Cobain and Louis Armstrong have appeared well past their death, this ban is completely understandable. The rhymes from “Triple Trouble” take on a whole new meaning now. “Cause I’m a specializer, rhyme reviser/Ain’t selling out to advertisers/What you get is what you see/And you won’t see me out there advertising.” Read more…

Keeping Up With Drake’s Drama Over Executive Producer Creds For Aaliyah’s Posthumous Album

A Timeline of Drake and Aaliyah Drama

Unintentionally, Drake has started quite the sh*tstorm over his executive producer aspirations of Aaliyah‘s posthumous album. Drake’s obsession, we mean admiration, of Aaliyah as an artist runs deep, so deep he inked her face on his back last year. Before the drama surrounding the veracity of the upcoming album he’s EP’ing, he’d big up his favorite artist in interviews. The name dropping was not only an ode to the fallen angel, but a precursor to all of the back and forth about whether or not Drake will have anything to do with Aaliyah’s new music, and if he really has the family’s blessing. If you’re having a hard time keeping up with it all, here’s a timeline of what we know so far. Read more…

Jordin Sparks Praises Whitney Houston For Being Down-To-Earth And Cool Despite Her ‘Supernova Superstar’ Status

In an ideal world we’d celebrate Whiney Houston‘s legacy every day. On her 49th birthday today we’re obviously grooving to the 11 videos of her No. 1 hits. As we dance as much as we can in our chairs to “I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me),” we also think about how loved Whitney was by her fans and everyone that knew her. We chatted with Jordin Sparks about working with Whitney on Sparkle. She reveled in Whitney’s ability to light up a room any room she walked in. The two formed a bond on the set of 1976 remake of Sparkle, which debuts August 17th, and led to the duet “Celebrate.” Read more…

Who Rocked “Ghetto Baby” Better: Lana Del Rey Or Cheryl Cole?

Lana Del Rey and Cheryl Cole "Ghetto Baby"

“Come on over ghetto baby, drop it like it’s hot girl,” Cheryl Cole and Lana Del Rey sing. Lana Del Rey is the latest victim to have her music leaked on the mean streets of the Internet. The expanded “Paradise” edition of Born to Die is due in November, but four new LDR songs recently leaked, including her version of “Ghetto Baby.” Originally penned by LDR, she gifted British singer Cheryl Cole with the song for Cole’s A Million Lights album. Although we’re not quite sure what a ghetto baby actually is, Cheryl’s version has a drum pattern that invokes a slight head nod. If we had to choose the potential dance worthy track, it’d be Cheryl’s. Read more…

2 Chainz And Nicki Minaj Declare “I Luv Dem Strippers,” But Doesn’t Everybody?

2 Chainz featuring Nicki Minaj Luv Dem Strippers

Is there any other genre of music that shows strippers as much love as hip-hop? Rappers truly love them some strippers. As 2 Chainz gears up for his forthcoming album Based On A T.R.U. Story, the latest single “I Luv Dem Strippers” featuring Nicki Minaj dropped yesterday. There are high expectations for a Nicki and 2 Chainz collaboration. With 2 Chainz’s southern flow and Nicki’s animation you expect to get hype, like “Beez In The Trap” hype. “I Luv Dem Strippers” is missing that same energy. The chorus is redundant; and 2 Chainz tries his hand at singing at the end of his verse. Rapping is your friend, rappers. Nicki’s delivery adds just a pinch more of excitement, but she sounds a tad bit like Iggy Azalea for some odd reason. Read more…
