Inclement weather wasn’t enough to stop the show for London’s three day Barclaycard Wireless Festival of live music from the hottest acts out today. Fans’ enthusiasm didn’t seem to wean either with the bad weather as they reveled in sets from Rihanna, Jessie J, Rita Ora, Drake, Deadmau5, Afrojack, The Roots, Labrinth and more. Deadmau5, Drake and Rihanna were the three headliners on Friday, Saturday and Sunday respectively. Despite both Drake and Rihanna’s personal matters in the states–the former being involved in a NYC nightclub brawl with Chris Brown and the latter grieving her deceased grandmother–they gave the people of London a mega show like the superstars they are. Destiny’s Child To Release New Material This Fall While We Cross Our Fingers For Reunion Tour
The ladies of Destiny’s Child have come a long way from the infectious “Bills, Bills, Bills” girl anthem of 1999. As one of the biggest girl groups of the 90s, we’ve long yearned for a DC reunion tour. That wish may not come true just yet, but we may be one step closer if Matthew Knowles has anything to do with it. Father of Beyonce and Solange, and powerhouse behind the success of DC and Beyonce, Matthew Knowles told HuffingtonPost unreleased music from DC will be released in November. “We still have our joint venture with Sony and in November we’re putting out two Destiny’s Child catalog records with new material,” said Knowles. The albums will include old material along with unreleased material, according to Knowles. Read more…
Kanye West Says, ‘I Make Perfect Music’ At Revel Concert
He has a big ego. Such a huge ego. And we kind of love it. At Atlantic City’s Revel Hotel and Casino this weekend, Kanye West performed his first solo show since Coachella in 2011. During his set he told the crowd, “I make perfect music.” At least he followed it up by recognizing he’s a flawed human being. Performing for two nights, both sold-out (he talks like this ’cause he can back it up!), West performed “Way Too Cold,” “Mercy” with no guest appearances, “Runaway” joined by Pusha T, “New God Flow,” “All of the Lights,” and “In The Air” cover by Phil Collins. Yes, you heard that right. Yeezy showed off his novice vocal skills. Read more…
One More Posthumous Amy Winehouse Album? Yes, Please
This week’s release of Nas‘ “Cherry Wine” featuring the late Amy Winehouse sparked a trip down memory lane on the greatness that was Amy. Fortunately, the magic that is her voice will forever live on record. In addition to dusting off our ancient CDs of her first two albums, her father, Mitch Winehouse, gave fans something to look forward to in the near future. Mr. Winehouse recently sat down with BBC Radio 6 Music News and revealed there should be at least one more album released of his daughter’s material. “I’m not sure that there is much more but I’m sure that we will get at least one other album out, if not two,” he said. Anywhere Amy’s voice is, we are there. Read more…
In Honor Of 50 Cent’s 36th Birthday: Happy Beef-day!
Go shorty, it’s your birthday, we gon’ party like it’s your birthday. Not only did 50 Cent drop 5 (Murder By Numbers) for free today, it’s the Queens rapper’s 36th birthday. Nine years ago he rose to massive fame with his debut album Get Rich or Die Tryin’ at the age of 27. Along with his crazy story of being shot nine times and his distinctive flow from having his jaw wired shut, 50′s success was also partly due to his ongoing beef with Ja Rule that ultimately ended Ja’s very popular career. Fifty’s war with the Murder Inc. rapper eventually simmered out, but 50 saw an opportunity in beef with his peers–if he was constantly dissing others on wax then he’d remain relevant because people would be listening. Thus began 50′s countless diss records and feuds. It’s only right that we celebrate his birthday by highlighting the top 10 beefs of his career. Happy Beef-day, Fiddy! Read more…
Men Lie, Women Lie, Numbers Don’t: Adele And Goyte Hold Down The Top Spots
It’s the second half of the year, folks, which means musically we’ve already experienced an abundance of extraordinary singles and albums with high levels of hope for the remainder of the year. 2012 hasn’t quite been a hit for any other artists in the way that it has for Adele and Gotye. According to HuffingtonPost, Adele’s 21 is the biggest seller in the U.S. having sold 3.69 million copies per Nielsen SoundScan. The amazing thing about Adele being the highest selling artist of this year is that her sophomore album 21 was released in January 2011 and has sold more than a million copies this year alone. At 23-years-old Adele is living the life–professionally she’s on top, and personally she’s in love and expecting her first child. Read more…
50 Cent To Release 5 (Murder By Numbers) As Free LP, Tweets Offensive Autism Slur
Lately the funny, mature and kind Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson has been on full display whether through his cuddling with stuffed animals or sitting down with his former archenemy Oprah. With tomorrow’s release of 5 (Murder By Numbers), which has now been pegged as a free LP, Curtis felt the need to unleash 50 Cent for a little tomfoolery. One of 50′s followers urged him to “release the album or get shot again” to which 50 responded, “yeah just saw your picture fool you look autistic.” His autism slur sparked an outcry leading to actress Holly Robinson Peete (who has an autistic son) penning an open letter to the rapper expressing how hurtful his words were. Oh, Fiddy. That Oprah appearance really had some folks fooled. Read more…
Groove To Nelly Furtado’s “The Spirit Indestructible”
In her first single from her forthcoming album The Spirit Indestructible, Nelly Furtado sang an ode to her big hoop earrings, and of course she thinks the bigger the better. The second single, “The Spirit Indestructible,” also has that uptempo vibe that made us snap our fingers. Frankly, “Big Hoops (Bigger The Better)” and the latest single sound mighty similar. We’re thinking that has something to do with its producer Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins who worked on both tracks. Initially she sings slowly before the chaotic fast paced beat drops making it a house party jam. Read more…
How Will Frank Ocean’s Revelation About His Sexuality Affect His Budding Career?
Frank Ocean’s courage was all the rave on social media as folks were celebrating their 4th of July with booze and barbeque. In light of a few headlines speculating about Frank’s sexuality, he decided to put the rumors to rest by releasing a “thank you’s” letter on his Tumblr that he’d originally intended to include in his upcoming album Channel Orange. In the letter he didn’t officially “come out” as gay or bi-sexual, but he admitted that his first love was a man. Like us, a legion of fans, celebrities included, were overjoyed with his transparency and bravery. Most of all, we were happy he finally could write the words: “I feel like a free man.” Read more…
Willow Smith Is Comfortable In Her Own Skin In “I Am Me”
It’d be a lie if we said the opening of Willow Smith’s “I Am Me” didn’t sound like Rihanna. Within seconds it’s blatantly obvious it’s not Riri because Willow has her own sound, but the similarity in sound is there, even if only for a moment. New York City is a perfect place for a video titled “I Am Me” because it’s a place where individuality is celebrated. In the middle of Washington Square Park Willow sports blue jeans and an oversized shirt toting her keyboard and skateboard. And the whole point is she just doesn’t care what anyone has to think, whether it’s about her clothes or her shaved head. Read more…
