Kanye West Curses Out Fan During Watch The Throne Paris Tour, Says ‘You’re Gonna Get F*cked Up’

Do not distract Kanye West while he’s performing unless you’re prepared for the sheer embarrassment of being cursed out in front of a crowd of thousands. During the Paris stint of Kanye and Jay-Z’s Watch The Throne tour, the Chicago rapper stopped the show for one harmless (maybe annoying) fan. Each show has created quite a bit of buzz whether it was for performing “N*ggas in Paris” 11 times, or for the A-list celebs like Gwyneth Paltrow (who found herself in hot water after tweeting the n-word) and Beyoncé in the front row. In the latest saga of Watch The Throne in Paris headlines, Kanye goes “H.A.M.” on a fan. Read more…

Nicki Minaj vs. Hot 97′s Funkmaster Flex And The Argument Of Real Hip-Hop

Nicki vs. Funkmaster Flex on Hot 97 SummerJam

Radio vs. hip-hop beef continues between Hot 97 radio and Nicki Minaj after Lil Wayne pulled all of Young Money from Sunday’s Summer Jam concert due to DJ Peter Rosenberg’s comment that “Starships” wasn’t real hip-hop. Last night Nicki called in to Hot 97 to speak to Funkmaster Flex (who was very vocal in shading her at Summer Jam). According to Flex the two exchanged a few heated emails before they could both calm down enough to have a live phone conversation. Emotions were high between the rapper and DJ host as both tried to argue their points regarding the bottomline: should Nicki have performed anyway against her boss’ orders, or is her decision justified? Wiz Khalifa, Fun. And Janelle Monae Keep It Electronic Dance Funky With Performances At MTV Movie Awards

Sunday night’s MTV Movie Awards was all about, well, the movies. And the fashion, both (good and bad). But the musical performances deserve a nod of their own. The rock band Fun. performed their hit single “We Are Young” to what sounded like either a glitch in the sound system or struggling vocals. Almost screaming the lead hollered through his performance. Janelle Monae joined the band on stage in her signature black tuxedo accentuated with a black fedora and something still sounded a bit off with the sound of their performance. Nonetheless, we love Fun. and Janelle Monae as collaborators, just as much as we sing along to “We Are Young.” Read more…

Summer Jam Concert Review: Nas And Lauryn Hill Perform In Lieu Of Nicki Minaj

Nas and Lauryn Hill At Hot 97 Summer Jam

In a chain of events few would have expected, Hot 97 Summer Jam was as much about who was performing as it was about who wasn’t performing. By the time Tyga performed “Faded” and “Rack City” there was a dark cloud looming over the nearly 80,000 attendees, and that cloud had nothing to do with the weather. Tyga’s boss, Lil Wayne, had just abruptly pulled the plug on any of his artists performing, including the show’s headliner–Nicki Minaj.

Hot 97 DJ Peter Rosenberg, known for his loose (opinionated) lips introduced Kendrick Lamar during the pre-show and dropped a bombshell that set the tone for the rest of the night. “I know there are some chicks here waiting to sing “Starships” later. I’m not talking to y’all right now. F*ck that bulls*it,” he said to the crowd. “I’m here to talk about real hip-hop s*it.” The YMCMB president got whiff of the perceived diss and tweeted, “Young Money ain’t doing summer jam.” With that one tweet the boss had spoken. But the show did in fact go on. And in a major way.

Opening acts like Maino, Joe Budden and Joel Ortiz rattled through their old hits to a barely there crowd. That didn’t keep Budden from declaring  he and his crew were the “best rappers in the universe.” People started filling in once Waka Flocka hit the stage with the wild, crazy, party energy he seems to carry with him anywhere he goes. The signature Waka Flocka move–shaking his dreads from side to side–was in full effect during “Bustin At Em,” “It’s A Party,” “Hard In the Paint and “I Don’t Really Care.” “No Hands” served as a segue into Wale’s set as the two shared the stage. J. Cole proved he’s studied in the School of Jay-Z as he was the first to perform with a live band. No entourage needed, he commanded the stage with his mere talent.

Vh1 Storytellers Exclusive: Jason Mraz Performs “Lucky” And “You Fckn Did It”

In this exclusive clip from VH1 Storytellers: Jason Mraz, Mraz performs “Lucky” as a duet. His partner’s strong vocals accompany his soft mellow voice that croons to the sound of the guitar. Not quite the tearjerker as “I Won’t Give Up,” but a stellar performance nonetheless. Mraz sings, “Lucky to be in love with my best friend.” We love sweet love songs that show appreciation for one’s significant other. And when the band plays the instruments without any singing– it’s heavenly! Jason Mraz gets five stars for this live ode to a lover/best friend. Read more…
