Adam Levine Blows Up Cars (And Looks Real Fine Doing So) In Maroon 5’s New “Payphone” Video

We’re totally swooning over how fine Adam Levine looks in the “Payphone” video featuring Wiz Khalifa. (Admittedly, the repeat button was abused.) It’s all shoot ‘em up bang bang in this hot new vid, which is the lead single off Maroon 5’s upcoming Overexposed album. The story begins at the ending. A scraggly Levine attempts to reach a woman on the payphone. Although this happens first in the video, in the timeline of events this really occurs after he plays superman at the bank to save the woman he loves from robbers. He escapes a hail of gunfire only to find the police outside, and guess who they think is the culprit of the robber? Surprise (not really): Levine.

Shortly after Wiz valet parks his drop top Levine steals the car and take the cops on a high speed chase leaving his lucky woman behind. Hence the “I’m at a payphone, trying to call home” chorus. He eludes the cops and makes it to the desperately needed payphone. “Payphone” is without a doubt action packed — a gun fight, police chase and exploding cars all withing less than five minutes. Is Levine trying to tell us something regarding acting aspirations? We totally envisioned this as a movie. A predictable one, but a movie nonetheless.

Jimi Hendrix Estate Is Not Cool With Andre 3000’s Planned Biopic

Jimi Hendrix Estate Not On Board with biopic

Just when we were getting excited about Andre 3000 rocking out in his new role as the late, great musician Jimi Hendrix in All Is By My Side, the Wall Street Journal reports there may be slight glitch that has the potential to halt the project. According to the report, the Hendrix family estate released a statement denying any involvement with the project. Experience Hendrix LLC is a family owned company that manages the late musician’s music and publishing. In the statement, Hendrix LLC says they have “made it known many times in the past that no such film, were it to include original music or copyrights created by Jimi Hendrix, can be undertaken without its full participation.”

There’s good news though! The CEO of the company, Janie Hendrix (Jimi’s sister), along with the board, isn’t opposed to being involved with a biopic, per the press release. “Experience Hendrix CEO Janie Hendrix, sister of Jimi Hendrix, and the EH board have not ruled out a ‘biopic’ in the future though producing partners would, out of necessity, have to involve the company from the inception of any such film project if it is to include original Jimi Hendrix music or compositions.” So, basically, All Is By My Side won’t have any original music by Hendrix since the estate wasn’t involved from jump. That is, unless the producers of All Is By My Side decide to pony up and pay some big bucks to the Hendrix clan. We hope the two sides can figure this out, because this is one movie that we cannot wait to see!

Chris Brown Disses Rihanna In Freestyle, Rihanna Unfollows Him On Twitter, He Unfollows Back

Chris Brown Disses Rihanna In Way Too Cold Fresstyle

As if Chriannagate wasn’t messy enough, last night Chris Brown released a freestyle over Kanye West’s “Way Too Cold (Theraflu)” that sounds like a diss toward his ex-girlfriend Rihanna. Talk about a bad case of the ex. In the freestyle Brown raps, “Don’t f*ck with my old bitches/like a bad fur/every industry n*gga done had her/trick or treat like a pumpkin/just to smash her.” OUCH.

Per TMZ, Rihanna must have gotten wind of the diss track and responded by unfollowing him on Twitter promptly. She also Instagrammed a pink Tweegram that read, “Take that thumb out your butt.” Looks like Rihanna has finally had enough of Brown continually treating her like garbage.

In typical battle of the ex fashion, Brown also unfollowed Rihanna and eventually tweeted: Read more…

Nelly Furtado Rocks Big Hoop Earrings And Walks On Stilts In “Big Hoops (Bigger The Better)”

Nelly Furtado is larger than life in her new video “Big Hoops (Bigger The Better).” Furtado walks around the city in stilts as onlookers stare in awe of the freak attraction, which is kind of a neat concept. In the song Furtado talks about partying, meeting a guy and not wanting to talk about sex. “I don’t want to talk about sex when I express myself tonight,” she sings. But don’t expect to see the typical party scene with a bunch of hot guys fawning over her beauty. Furtado is way too cool for the ordinary. Read more…

M.I.A. Lands New Gig As A Beer Bottle Designer, Says She Doesn’t Want To Be Known For Controversy

When she’s not riding on the side of flipped cars, M.I.A. is focused on creating artwork– the same artwork she designed for Beck’s beer bottles. Spin.com caught up with M.I.A. to chat about her new art endeavors and where she’s at with her highly anticipated fourth album. Since she flipped the bird in this year’s Super Bowl (where she performed with Madonna and Nicki Minaj), M.I.A. has been fairly lowkey. Before that she dropped an impromptu video for “Bad Girls,” but hasn’t followed up with another single from her forthcoming album Matangi. Until she satisfies our curiosity we’re happy to watch “Bad Girls” on repeat. Read more…

The Girls Swoon Over Justin Bieber’s “Boyfriend” Performance On The Voice

For a minute there we thought Justin Bieber had joined the #moneyteam after this weekend’s Floyd Mayweather vs. Miguel Cotto fight where Biebs was pictured holding Mayweather’s championship belts in the ring. Don’t fret. He may love the #moneyteam, but his performance on last night’s season finale of the “The Voice” proves he’s focused on the music. Before Jermaine Paul was pronounced this season’s winner, the 18-year-old pop heartthrob performed his first Believe single “Boyfriend,” which is soaring on the iTunes charts holding down the No. 4 spot. Former Bad Boy Rapper G-Dep Senteced To 15 Years For Murder, GQ Editor On Jury That Found Him Guilty

G-Dep Sentenced to 15 Years, GQ Editor Jim Nelson On Jury

When G-Dep’s “Special Delivery” came on, no matter where you were, getting hype was the only logical thing to do. That was in ’01, and we haven’t heard much from the former Bad Boy Records rapper since. Trevell “G-Dep” Coleman was sentenced to 15 years in prison for a murder he committed 16 or 17 years ago (he couldn’t really recall when). Last year he turned himself in cold turkey saying he had to make it right with God, according to Global Grind. G-Dep told cops he shot a man three times in a robbery when he was 18 or 19. With his confession on the table, the jury convicted him as guilty.

In a strange turn of events, GQ editor Jim Nelson was on the jury that found G-Dep guilty. In his monthly “Letter from the Editor” for the June 2012 issue, Nelson recalls his feelings about being on the jury that sent a once well known rapper to prison. He writes:

Once the D.A. matched him to the crime, we the jurors wrestled with a mess of things, but couldn’t avoid the evidence. I sometimes wondered if I was fit to judge this man who was capable of acts of public violence and personal honor I couldn’t even imagine having to wrestle with. And I’d think: Hasn’t this man suffered enough? He’s done twenty years in his head already. That’s a slower, more infernal form of justice, the interior kind, isn’t it?

And yeah, tell that to the guy he killed.

We found him guilty, because he was, and no one’s excusing anything. (After the trial, he talked to MTV and, sounding like a man unburdened, thanked “everybody that was involved in the case.”) Still, it’s a heavy feeling: I helped put him away, and yet when I think of someone who did his duty, I think of Trevell Coleman.

Wow. Everything about this story is tough no matter how you slice it. We’re not sure it’s appropriate to give G-Dep props for turning himself in since he did murder someone. But the growth apparent by that decision is at least notable. Kudos to Nelson for his transparency. Unfortunately, no one really wins in the end.
