Written six years ago, P!nk‘s “Dear Mr. President” spoke directly to former President George W. Bush. And now, it speaks directly to the history of politically charged anthems, one that spans years of candidates and every age of our country’s history. P!nk’s open letter to George W. never made it to the charts, as she decided it would never be a single because “it was too important to be perceived as a publicity stunt.”
Meanwhile, the lyrics are loud and clear on the singer’s feelings on our former President. Unabashedly, she calls him out for his reported contradictions:
What kind of father would take his own daughter’s rights away?
And what kind of father might hate his own daughter if she were gay?
I can only imagine what the first lady has to say
You’ve come a long way from whiskey and cocaine.
If all goes as P!nk hopes, as she’ll be voting Obama today, she won’t be writing our President such a strongly-worded musical letter for (at least!) the next four years. To hear more of the story behind “Dear Mr. President”, check out P!nk’s full VH1 Storytellers on Tuesday, November 13th at 11PM EST.
Apparently, these two pop divas forgot to coordinate their Halloween costumes—or DID THEY? I hope they got together for some celebratory “hangouts” before going out, because both women went dressed as each of their favorite past time: Marijuana. But because this is a blog and I a mere human, I had to pit these two Ganja Queens against each other in a BATTLE FOR THE THRONE.
Who deserves the very strong smelling grand prize?
There are categories! This is serious.
On this Dead of the Dead there seems to be a pop music zombie who has just arisen. According to WWW.ASHLEESIMPSONMUSIC.COM (as opposed to Ashlee SimpsonActress.com or Ashlee SimpsonJessica Simpson‘sSister.com), our girl is back with new music in T MINUS 20 DAYS and continually counting down. The official drop date for this new single and its accompanying video? November 21st.
Just in time for Halloween, Mya’s newest effort is a tropical track with a trashy theme. That’s because she inexplicably embodies a (sexy) garbage woman–complete with lacy bra, reflective vest and protective gloves. One of these things is simply not like the others. The song itself is moderately catchy, featuring rapper SPICE and Mya airing our her laundry (literally).
Grind up on Mya after the jump…
It’s amazing how a casual Instagram can get everyone worked up. Especially when it’s a photo of Miguel and Beyoncé — with the former alluding in the caption: “…woah. creating for Virgo’s all weekend.” Beyoncé, of course, is a Virgo (haven’t you heard B’Day?) and she’s definitely had some R&B heavy-hitters “create” for her in the past. 4‘s “I Miss You” was written by a (then) relatively unknown Frank Ocean. And who could forget “Irreplaceable” written by none other than Ne-Yo (Whoops, not The Dream, he wrote “1+1″ — thanks @KingBeysus)? With Kaleidoscope Dream Miguel by her side, it’s easy to see Bey crafting up some magic for her next album.
Weirdly, Miguel deleted the Instagram soon after he put it out there. Bey is known for being mysterious, but she also must know the speed of the BeyHive–it’s out there and we’re all excited for this Bey/Miguel joint.

America’s Sweetheart turned Tim Burton muse turned shoplifting pariah, Winona Ryder, will always be the coolest girl of all time. Okay, the coolest woman, as she officially turns 41 years old today. No matter her age, we’ll always remember her as *the* It Girl, not to mention star of films with the coolest soundtracks. We’d like to think she’s had a hand in the soundtracks–the girls has dated rock stars from Pete Yorn and Evan Dando to Chris Isaak and Beck.
In honor of her 41st, we’ve made the ultimate ‘Winona Forever (Young)’ playlist, chock full of the most memorable tracks from Wino’s most memorable films.
If you’re East Coast-based like us, it’s likely that you’re fully focused on the approaching weather. Hurricane Sandy is like the Sandy at the end of Grease–the one with the crazy leather pants and cigarette? Do you understand our stress now? To help get through the storm, we’ve put together a playlist full of Sandy-inspired songs for all you Spotify users out there: (Rock You Like A) Hurricane Sandy: Get Through The Storm With Some Jams.
A sampling of our playlist after the jump…
That’s correct, according to Science aka a study done by music streamers Spotify, the Dirty Dancing soundtrack is the most arousing song selection to play during sex. And because this is Science, it is ultimately accurate and someone needs to teach these Spotify users about Sam Cooke or something. More important, men need to stop letting their ladies choose the playlist, because apparently music does not matter as much to men as it does to women in the sack. This, again, is Science:
Dirty Dancing was the top pick for both men and women, although the study’s author, music psychologist Daniel Mullensiefen, also pointed out that men are more willing to adjust their tastes in music in order to ensure “greater success in the bedroom.”
Apparently, Science becomes Science again after you’re finished with carrying watermelons and such, because the number two sex song pick is Marvin Gaye‘s “Sexual Healing”. Ravel’s “Bolero” (which sounds like this) comes afterward.
Go shawty, it’s your birthday. We gonna party like it’s your birthday! It’s not our birthday, it’s Ciara‘s, but we wanted a gift for ourselves, and you, on her special day. To celebrate the One Woman Army singer’s born day we watched about 10 of her videos (literally the best part of our day) in search of her flyest choreographed moves. After watching it was hard to narrow it down to only 27 since her dancing is pretty much flawless. But, alas, 27 moments were chosen. And what better way to see her intricate choreography all in one shot? A GIF wall! You can thank us later. Whether it’s her hip roll in “Work” or her impressive booty popping skills on top of the car in “Oh,” you’ll be hypnotized, having to pry yourself away from your computer screen. It’s incredibly mesmerizing the way she effortlessly dances to the beat. It’s a bonus that she’s gorgeous in heels or in sneakers with sweatpants. It’s not even our our birthdays, but we feel like we’ve been gifted with a special treat. Happy Birthday, Ciara! While she celebrates her special day somewhere exclusive we’ll be at our desks quietly practicing these moves in our chairs. Shhhh. Don’t tell anybody. Read more…
