Kelly Clarkson’s “Catch My Breath” Is A Reminder To Stop And Smell The Roses

Kelly Clarkson "Catch My Breath"

After repeatedly blowing us away with her impeccable covers, Kelly Clarkson stopped for a moment to catch her breath. Ryan Seacrest premiered Clarkson’s new single “Catch My Breath” from her first greatest hits collection Greatest Hits–Chapter 1. The song is celebratory in that it acknowledges she’s going to live her life the way that makes her happy. Her voice flows from a leveled alto to a high near-scream for the chorus. “I will spend the rest of my life/Catching my breath/Letting it go/Turning my cheek for the sake of the show/Now that you know/This is my life/I won’t be told what’s supposed to be right.” The hook is slowed down only for her to deliver a perfect high-pitched “In everything!” Clarkson penned the song with one of her best friends who she says has seen her through everything. P!nk Gets Physical In The Beautiful New Video For “Try”

We’ve always known that P!nk was a strong chick, but it turns out she can be pretty elegant, too. Dressed like a forest nymph with her hair platinum blonde hair streaked blue, P!nk gets physical in the stunning new video for Truth About Love‘s tough ballad “Try.” Directed by Floria Sigismondi, the video depicts her struggle with love with a seriously intense interpretive dance, that was choreographed by The Golden Boyz and P!nk’s own trapeze partner Sebastien Stella. Like the relationship she’s singing about, her tangle with her handsome co-star is sexy but violent, and there are more than a few moments that look like they might have been actually painful (can someone check to make sure she’s okay after that drop at 2:03?). P!nk’s nothing if not tough, though, and that guy’s sharply chiseled abs seem the perfect motivation to get up and keep trying.

And don’t just take our word for it, the video is mama approved, too: Read more…

There Is Almost No Pineapple In Rick Ross And Drake’s “Diced Pineapple” Video

Rick Ross‘ “Diced Pineapples,” featuring a spoken word intro from MMG affiliate Wale and a sweet hook by Drake, has had us scratching our heads since the beginning. When it was just a title on a track list, we wondered what on earth Ross might have to say about the titular golden fruit. Before it’s release, he suggested that it was inspired by his doctor mandated post-seizure diet, when he ate woke up every morning at at diced pineapples at his doctors insistence. But then we heard the slow-and-sexy song and realized that it’s not about pineapple at all, really. There’s a little fruit-as-sex (“diced pineapple make make my baby taste the best”) and fruit-as-riches (“diced pineapples, talking diamonds by the jar”) action, but it’s otherwise a pretty standard Bawse affair.

And so we held out hope that Ross might go in on a pineapple in the video the way he did that steak in the “So Sophisticated” video. Unfortunately, that’s not the case, as the video that arrived last night features only a flash of pineapple (see below). Instead, the Vitamin C deficient feature finds Ross and his boys and a bunch of pretty ladies taking in beautiful Caribbean sunsets while enjoying a well Instagram-ed vacation. You know, a relaxing affair, just like the doctor would prescribe. Read more…

Ladies Night: Rihanna And Nicki Minaj Lead American Music Awards Nominations

Done up like a peacock in an a curve-hugging purple dress and her blonde locks dip-dyed pink, Christina Aguilera spent her morning reading off the nominees for the 2012 American Music Awards. Because AMA nominations are based on sales, airplay, social buzz and video streams, nominations tend to hue Top 10-centric, and this year proves no exception. Lady dynamos Nicki Minaj and Rihanna lead the pack with four nominations a piece, and will have to duel it out with Katy Perry and Kelly Clarkson for  the Best Female Artist: Pop/Rock honor. Otherwise, Drake, Justin Bieber, Usher, Maroon 5 and One Direction trailing closely behind with three nods each.

It’s a little disappointing to see that some of the year’s most exciting acts — like Mumford & Sons, who broke records with their album; like Frank Ocean, who swelled-hearts with his; like Kanye West, who’s forever changing his game –  were left off the list, but we’re happy to take consolation in imagine all the fun photo-ops that will happen when all these superstars join together in one big room.

The award show airs live from Los Angeles at 8 p.m. ET on November 18. Check out all the nominees below: Read more…

T.I. Tells His Side Of The Scott Stapp Suicide Story

Last week Creed‘s Scott Stapp left the internet wide eyed and wondering with his story about the time T.I. came to his rescue after he had tried to jump from his penthouse suite’s balcony. Stapp covered most of the big questions — Did they know each other? Yes, they had worked together on the Passion of The Christ compilation and they both love Alabama football. Why was T.I. there? He had checked into the last room, at the last minute. What’s T.I.’s favorite Creed song? Just kidding, Carrie Keagan must have asked that during the commercial break. — but left us with one nagging one: why would they wait so long to share such an unlikely and miraculous story?

T.I. called in to VH1′s Big Morning Buzz Live this morning to share his side of the story, and in his telling he explained why he’s kept the heroic act under wraps for so long. First prefacing that “you got to keep in mind that my life has been rather eventful since 2006,” he took us back to that day at the Delano. He and his crew had just checked in, and they were out on the balcony taking in the view when all of a sudden they noticed a groaning above them: Read more…

Led Zeppelin Address Reunion Rumors In NYC Press Conference: “The Tail Should Never Wag The Dog”

Led Zeppelin Celebration Day Press Conference

Memo to rock journalists looking to score a big scoop by getting the surviving members of Led Zeppelin —from left to right above, John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page, and Robert Plant— to comment on whether or not the band will reunite for an extended concert tour: A direct line of questioning is most certainly NOT your best bet to get them to address the issue that is on everyone’s mind. No less than three journalists were met with glares of steely silence by Led Zeppelin in a press conference held at New York City’s Museum of Modern Art earlier this afternoon, but an indirect question about the band’s onstage vibe during the December 2007 performance at London’s O2 Arena that is the basis for their upcoming concert film Celebration Day resulted in the closest thing to an answer that the band would give on whether we’ll ever see any more Zeppelin shows.

“That night, back then, we were just hangin’ on for dear life,” Robert Plant told the crowd of 150 journalists or so. “We were just watching each other, we were so happy we were getting it right. There were moments in it where we just took off, pushed off into some place. The responsibility of doing that four nights of week for the rest of time is a different thing. We’re pretty good at what we do, but the tail should never wag the dog. If we’re capable of doing something in our own time, that will be what will happen. So any inane questions from people from syndicated outlets, you should just really think about what it takes to answer a question like that in one second. We know what we’ve got.”

Is Taylor Swift’s Looking For Trouble In Her New Dubstep Track “I Knew You Were Trouble”?

“I Knew You Were Trouble” may be, well, all sorts of troublesome for some Taylor Swift fans, because Taylor seems to have given herself over to her co-writers Max Martin and Shellback this time around. The new Red cut begins with a “once upon a time” and a plucky guitar line that sounds pretty typical of Taylor, but there’s hardly a twang to be heard thereafter, as the song turns into something more grinding and chaotic. Where things really get crazy is at the hook, when the bass drops (albeit pretty gently) and Taylor leans in: “OHH, OHHHH/ TROUBLE TROUBLE TROUBLE.” She’s basically moaning, though — because she likes it?

Multiple albums’ worth of breakup songs later, the world has begun to suspect that Taylor is sort of enjoying all these heartbreaks. With “Trouble,” she seems to be admitting as much. The song finds Taylor reflecting on a relationship that maybe never should have been: “I knew you were trouble when you walked in, so shame on me now,” she sings. But she doesn’t sound faint of heart about the whole thing, rather she makes self-aware jokes about “Once upon a time, a few mistakes ago…” It’s exciting to hear Taylor shed the good girl guise and show-off her bad side like this, and if experimenting with new sounds helps her to express these feelings, then by all means let that bass drop! Experimental Taylor might just be fun, after all.

Ke$ha’s Picture Book Memoir Will Be Painted With Glitter And Whiskey (We Hope)

Ke$ha announced Monday that she will scrap off the glitter and glow paint and get personal in a memoir titled My Crazy Beautiful Life, scheduled for release November 20th. According to the announcement, the book will span her entire life and will include rare evidence of her pre-dollar sign days. It will also include her “thoughts and reflections,” and — because she’ll always be a little cooky like that — the whole thing will be illustrated. That’s right, everything you ever wanted to know about the queen of shock pop, as depicted by glitter and whiskey painted illustrations ( or so we hope). A few questions we hope to have answered from this book include: was she born with glitter in her hair? Was she always a Dawson girl, or did she have to fall for Pacey’s charms first? At what age did she swap toothpaste for Jack Daniels? And about that sexy episode with the afterlife, how exactly did she… Read more…
